Laid out initially in 1371 as the Royal Pleasure Gardens for King Vikramabahu III who kept court at Paradeniya, these spectacularly beautiful gardens became an incubator for the British plantation economy when in 1821, the Botanic Garden that had moved from Kew in Slave Island, Colombo to Kalatura, was re-located here. the garden now cover close to 60 hectares and have about 4,000 species of magnificent trees and plants, including one of the world's best collections of orchids, an array of giant palms and an astounding java fig which spreads its giant presence all over the Great Lawn. The country's longest river, the Mahaweli flows on its perimeter enchanting the beauty of the gardens with unique riverine flora.

Bordering the jungle and overlooking the hills the hotel located 2.5 km from the city center and just a 20 minute walk from Kandy Lake. The always refreshing open-air terrace on the 3rd floor houses the restaurant and is the place to be to cool off after a day around town. Both local and international dishes are served. The hotel has 10 en suite rooms, from budget category to a large two-room suite with its own kitchen. Except for the four budget category all rooms have air conditioning. The budget rooms are located in the ground floor from the main building. The top floor above the terrace contains 3 deluxe rooms with a view.
