A tranquil haven for relaxation, the Palmstone Retreat is the ultimate sanctuary. Hidden away from civilisation in the midst of lush tropical rainforest and adjoining what is essentially a private cascading waterfall and stream that flows through the property. Tucked away silently, 4 kms from Kitulgala town, on ten acres of jungle. Palmstone Retreat is located halfway between Colombo and the Central Hills of Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Hatton providing the perfect base to explore several important attractions in Sri Lanka. Kithulgala has a beautiful setting, with breath-taking scenery of hills that are covered in thick rainforest, which plunge down to the gushing majestic waters of the Kelani River. Kitulgala is a bio-diversity hotspot and has been dubbed the adventure capital of Sri Lanka, with a multitude of excursions and activities from white water rafting, canyoning, jungle treks, waterfall chasing and bird watching to name a few. The Belilena Cave is a historical site located a short trek away from the hotel, a sight of an ancient temple and some of the oldest skeletal remains of man. Some of Kitulgala’s most interesting places are closer than you might think.

A short trek from Palmstone Retreat takes you through the surrounding forest to caves hidden amongst the rock formations - an easy adventure to add to your stay and a chance to explore a little more of the landscape beyond the hotel.

Our guide, Sameera, will be happy to lead the way, taking you along the trail and helping you discover a side of Kitulgala you might otherwise miss.

Our suites are designed around their surroundings, with large windows that keep the forest close and interiors that give you plenty of room to settle in. Read by the window, enjoy the fresh fruit waiting for you, or simply sit for a while and watch the trees outside.

Perhaps the greatest luxury today is finding a place where nothing demands your attention.

There are moments during a stay at Palmstone Retreat when you forget you're in a hotel at all. You wake to birdsong instead of traffic. The rainforest becomes the view from your room, and the line between indoors and outdoors quietly disappears.

For a little while, there are no schedules to keep or notifications to answer. Just the quiet rhythm of nature and the rare feeling that the world can wait.
