Lanka Yoga is a purpose-built yoga school and retreat venue on Koggala Lake, Sri Lanka. We host immersive 200HR Yoga Teacher Trainings in Synergy Vinyasa and Hatha yoga, alongside retreats run by experienced teachers. Our peaceful lakeside setting, nourishing plant-based food, and eco-conscious design offer the perfect environment for deep practice and learning.

How could we not feed you what we grow?
And for the produce that we couldn’t grow, it comes from local farmers and suppliers. Our ingredients are fresh and locally grown.
And of course, being tropical, the fruits are next level 👌🏾

Tishani is from Talpe, a village just down the road from Lanka. Every day her mum and dad bring her to work in their blue tuk tuk.

She started here as a trainee helper around 18 months ago, after studying tourism, and slowly grew into a much bigger role in the kitchen.

These days she helps run meal service, supports the team and sometimes co-supervises the kitchen.

Quiet, kind and genuinely lovely to have around.

Yoga on the beach probably isn’t where you go for perfect alignment or technical precision. The sand shifts, the footing moves, and the body has to constantly adapt.

But that’s also part of the value.

In the Synergy approach, movement comes from the core and spine first - using breath, fluidity and internal support rather than force or rigidity. On an unstable surface, that awareness becomes much more obvious.

Add the ocean, fresh air and nervous system shift from simply being outdoors, and the practice becomes less about performance and more about feeling human again.

Not every space is made to bring people together.
Some are there so you can disappear for a while.

A coffee in the corner.
Rain moving through the trees.
No pressure to speak. No pressure to be “on”.

Just little pockets around the property where you can retreat for a bit - even when other people are around.

I think that’s what I’ve always liked here.
You can be social, exhausted, open, closed off… it doesn’t really matter. The space seems to make room for all of it.

We know it can be daunting for some, to travel away from home and commit to being around new people for an extended period of time - that why these corners exist. Solitude amongst the social-tude 🫶🏾

What we’re tying to say is, the region around Lanka Yoga is extremely pretty.

Sri Lanka has many areas to visit, ours is t directly on the tourist map but it is between Ahangama and Unawatuna. And because of that, we find just the right balance of can do something and want to do not much.

Meet Dushyantha (well, as if you haven’t already) - he is our senior Sri Lankan teacher, born and raised in Colombo and now teaching full time on the south coast.

He completed his YTT with Stefan at Lanka Yoga, has trained directly with Simon Borg-Olivier in Yoga Synergy, and has been part of the teaching team across multiple YTTs since.

A keen Vipassana meditator with a background in music, the arts, and science, he teaches with a playful, exploratory energy that makes the more technical Yoga Synergy material easier to land.

He’s the one to talk to about meditation if it interests you, he’s our resident Vipassana advocate and has done the long retreats himself.

He is also the father of the cutest baby in the world 🤍🤍

Flashback Wednesday - so much has changed.

These images are from 3 years ago.

The Shala has somewhat merged with the jungle, the parking area is now separated by a beautiful garden, Sito grew to be alpha after Pepsi passed - but then lost the throne to grumpy Birdie, Stefan now wears a shirt when he teaches (thanks), the menu has evolved a lot, some core staff are still setting the standard along with new members.

The property feels better than ever.

It’s hot, beautiful, a little chaotic and somewhat romantic at first view.

A lot of people make the friendly mistake of hailing a tuktuk thinking it’s a taxi service. After your ride you might be happy to find out the driver was just a father on his way to pick up his kids, he’s not a taxi driver at all - but he was happy to help.

Take your time to enjoy the local street vendors, the classic vehicles - but whatever you do, get out of the way of those moving buses. They are wild.

It’s easy to romanticise it all from the outside.
But this isn’t styled, it’s daily life for the locals.

What might look pretty to us, may actually be the outcome of a restrictive and developing economy.

We love it here. It’s not perfect, not always easy - but there is a warm and a welcome that is hard to find elsewhere.
