"Scotiabank's 1832 Asset Management subsidiary has dissolved its stake in Israeli arms manufacturer Elbit Systems ESLT.TA, ESLT.O, regulatory filings showed, after the Canadian bank faced sharp criticism for the investment.

Activists angered over Elbit's role in supplying military equipment used by Israel during the war with Hamas had pressured the Scotiabank BNS.TO investment arm, which at one point was the biggest foreign investor in the weapons maker."

** BREAKING NEWS **
I've just had wonderful news. We have won Gold (the highest award) at the 2025 Australian Tea Masters Competition for our 'Double Twist Strong' black tea!! This was an international.competion set against 700 other competing tea businesses throughout the world!!! We struggled to complete our entry as it was just after Cyclone Ditwah and we only entered this tea. We had paid to enter our Spicy Orange but that turned out not to be possible because of no electricity.
Wow! This is a real boost. I can't wait to share with staff tomorrow.
Raise a glass for us tonight as we start to rise from the ashes!

Well done! Thoughtful and aware Israeli's MUST rise up against Zionist genocide or live with their complicity and explain it to their children and grandchildren forever. Rise up and redeem yourselves in your own hearts.

“Prison did not teach me – I taught prison what freedom is.”

These are the words of Nael Barghouti, the man Guinness World Records recognized as the world’s longest-serving political prisoner. Last February, Nael finally walked out of an Israeli cell after spending a staggering 45 years in custody. He went in as a 20-year-old student in 1978 and was released as a 67-year-old man in 2025.

To understand Nael is to understand a systematic attempt to erase a human life. First sentenced to 112 years for resisting the occupation, he was briefly freed in 2011, only to be re-arrested in 2014 under the pretext of a "secret file." He spent those 31 months of freedom in his village of Kobar, hiking the hills to taste the fruit of lemon trees he had helped plant from a cell—sending seeds to his mother from prison years earlier.

Inside, fellow inmates called him the “Dean of PaIestinian Prisoners” and "Abu al-Nour" (Father of Light). He turned the prison into a university. For nearly half a century, he mentored generations of young men, teaching them that their identity was not defined by their jailers. As he told Anadolu upon his release: “The occupation's attempts to strip us of our humanity only make us more human.”Nael turned his cell into a university. An avid reader of history and Islamic philosophy, he mentored thousands of young men. He taught literacy, political theory, and history to teenagers who were often arrested before they could finish school.

He taught younger detainees how to remain human in an inhuman place.

His marriage to Iman Nafi’ is a story of resistance in its own right. Nael first heard of Iman while watching a television report in prison; she was a former prisoner herself who had served 10 years. He proposed from behind bars, and they married just one month after his release in 2011. Even when he was re-arrested in 2014, their bond never broke. Nael sent Iman a letter offering her the chance to walk away so she wouldn't have to spend her life waiting again. Her response was a total commitment: “I will wait my whole life. I will keep fighting for him until the end.”

Nael’s resilience was forged in a family that has been resisting for over a century. While he was locked away, he was denied the right to say goodbye to both of his parents and his brother, Omar. Yet, he remained the moral anchor for every prisoner who walked through those doors—the man who taught others how to remain free while in chains.

Nael is now living in exile in Egypt—a condition of his 2025 release. The occupation even banned his wife from traveling to meet him at the border. But for Nael, exile doesn't change the truth of who he is. As he put it: “The bitterness of the homeland is a hundred times better than the sweetness of exile... but I never left Palestine. Palestine lived inside me.”

The mask of the "legal system" that stole 45 years of his life is off. They could take his time, but they could never break the Dean."
