It has lovely beaches and very famous for small scale tourist destinations. From recent past Mirissa also becoming a prominent place for whale watching as well. For the last 20-25 years, Mirissa is sought by the Middle to low end segment tourists, who want to stay long period of time on their holidays and vacations. Mirissa area with sunny sandy beaches,

y turned it into a tourist attraction. The main reason is they can get very reasonably priced Room or Cabana with very quiet and clean beaches around. In fact Cabanas are most sought as it provides privacy, while having all other common facilities as well. From recent past there is another segment of Tourists who are interested to stay only couple of days as the last lap of their travelling schedule in Sri Lanka. That is after grueling travelling schedule around Sri Lankan sited, now they want to relax couple of days in a quite beach before heading to the air port. Currently there are 12-14 small to medium scale Hotels/cabanas operators, but in the peak season, ie from August to mid March, there are overflow of tourist guests seeking accommodation in the area. travel guide and therefore the marketing part is taken care of by itself and also by referrals of the tour operators, tour guides etc.
