Sri Lanka has officially secured the 50th spot in the prestigious Top 50 Food Destinations for 2026, published by the global travel authority Travel And Tour World (TTW). While Mexico claimed first place, followed by Italy and Spain, Sri Lanka’s inclusion marks a massive milestone for our local tourism sector. This global ranking was curated based on food heritage, regional diversity, street food, and sustainable dining.
The publication praised the island's unique blend of aromatic spices and rich cultural traditions. It highlights how the country effortlessly caters to international travelers by offering everything from high-velocity street food stalls to elegant beachfront dining.
The official report shines a spotlight on ten must-visit culinary hubs across Sri Lanka. The bustling capital of Colombo stands out for its iconic rice and curry, kottu roti, hoppers, and urban street food, while the coastal towns of Galle and Negombo are celebrated as the ultimate destinations for fresh seafood.
In the cultural heart of the country, Kandy is highlighted for its authentic traditional dishes, whereas Jaffna is singled out for its legendary crab curry and Tamil culinary heritage.
Up in the scenic hill country, Ella earns praise for its organic, farm-to-table dining, and Nuwara Eliya is recognized for tea-infused dishes. Along the coastline, the lively beachside hubs of Mirissa, Hikkaduwa, and Trincomalee round out the list for their vibrant beachfront dining and fresh seafood.
