Our beautiful island is currently facing a dual challenge: the threat of Cyclonic Storm “Ditwah” and the ongoing need for economic resilience. Your immediate safety is paramount.
⛈️ Immediate Weather Action
The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Warning due to Cyclonic Storm “Ditwah”. Heavy rain (up to 200mm+), very strong winds (up to 90 kmph), and associated risks of flooding and landslides are expected across many parts of the island, including Northern, North-Central, Central, and North-Western Provinces.
🛑 Action Checklist - Stay Alive, Stay Informed:
* Evacuate Immediately: If you are in a low-lying or identified landslide-prone area (e.g., parts of the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces), do not wait. Move to a safe, higher-ground location or an official relief center.
* Stay Indoors: Unless instructed to evacuate, remain indoors and away from windows.
* Avoid Travel: Rail services may be suspended. Do not drive or walk through floodwaters. Six inches of moving water can knock an adult down.
* Secure Property: Tie down or bring inside any loose outdoor items (roof sheets, bins, etc.).
