Protecting Nature, One Step at a Time.

Yesterday began an important journey towards making the Yala National Park area a plastic-free zone! Our dedicated Yala Naturalist team came together for the first phase of this massive cleanup, removing plastics scattered near the park's border.

This initiative isn't just about beautifying the environment โ€“ it's about preventing the spread of diseases with the rainy season approaching and stopping wild animals from accidentally consuming harmful plastics.

The Yala Naturalist team is committed to continuing this mission, with many more cleanup projects planned. Let's protect nature, not just admire it!

Say hello to one of Yala's quirkiest residents the Sri Lankan Sloth Bear!

With their long shaggy fur and signature sickle-shaped claws, these night owls might look a bit grizzly, but they're really just slow-moving snackers with a sweet tooth (honey, anyone?).

Their diet? Mostly ants and termites! But donโ€™t let their chilled-out vibe fool you, theyโ€™ve mastered the art of sucking up insects through a gap in their teeth. Yep, no central upper incisors make these bears the ultimate nature vacuum cleaners!

Although theyโ€™re nocturnal and prefer a quiet life, these vulnerable giants need our attention. Habitat loss and illegal hunting put them at risk, so let's do our part to protect these gentle creatures.

Ever been lucky enough to spot one? Share your experience with us! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Mahoora tented safari camps Wilpattu National Park

To cut down on travel time, a Mahoora tented safari camp is one of the best and most convenient accommodation options, especially at Wilpattu where the extensive acreage means that you have to drive a longer distance to where the animals are. Unlike staying in a traditional hotel, Mahoora tented safari camps allow you to feel that you are truly a part of the great outdoors.

Choosing this option means that you will have the privilege of being the first in and the last out of the Park when on a safari drive. However if you still feel that you would prefer hotel style accommodation then let us know and we will arrange it for you, though please note that accommodation in these parts is more of a rustic kind.
