14 years of persistence. One historic milestone.

Behind the Kudakalliya Beach House property lies the Duwa Ara Mangrove Forest... 32.5 hectares of irreplaceable, life-giving ecosystem. For over a decade, it was a battle to ensure its survival.

After 14 long years of dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment, this extraordinary ecosystem was officially declared the Duwa Ara Mangrove Reserved Forest via Gazette notification.

Today, we don't just look out at these mangroves; we actively stand guard over them. Working hand-in-hand as official protectors governed by the Forest Department, we are ensuring that this living shield remains intact for generations to come.

Conservation isn't a sprint; it’s a marathon. Thank you to everyone who stood by us through fourteen years of effort to make this protection a reality.

A lesson in how to start the morning, courtesy of our resident expert. Look at Mandy, one of our Kudakalliya family, taking her time.

She finished her gentle stroll and settled down right where one of the tributaries of the Heda Oya meets the ocean, simply eyeballing the beauty. This is never about rushing. Sometimes the most luxurious thing you can do is just sit and watch the tide change. Mandy seems to have it figured out.

A bold reminder that Kudakalliya doesn’t just sit on a beach; we lie precisely where one of the tributaries of the Heda Oya meets the ocean. This morning, our team member, Anish, captured these fresh tracks.

These wavy lines in the sand are the tail-drags of a large estuarine (saltwater) crocodile. We regularly see their movement between the sea and the river.

For your safety, we strongly recommend against swimming or bathing in the tributary of the Heda Oya next to crocodile rock as well as the main branch of Heda Oya that breaks into the sea next to the elephant rock).

This is the unfiltered reality of living so close to true wilderness, and it demands our respect.

No safari jeep. Just you, a quiet afternoon, and a wild elephant foraging along the tributary of The Heda Oya… a few steps from the Ganga Addara. This is what it means to be inside the ecosystem, not just passing
through it. Isn’t it ironic that he is posing in front of the “beware of the elephant” sign.

A Crested Hawk-Eagle in the canopy. Fresh papaya, mango, and local juice on the table. One of the tributaries of the Heda Oya moving heavy beyond the trees. This is the start to our breakfast at Ganga Addara River House. The predator in the canopy is optional, but fairly regular.
