Sigiriya is located in the middle of a cultural boundary. Ayubowan! Hello! A big warm welcome everyone to Anotherworld of Sigiriya!

We are born in Sigiriya and our lives grown up with tourism. Therefore we know the requirements of our guests very well. We always try to do something different which are not commonly experienced by our guests. We are located in the middle of nature and very close to the Sigiriya all sites. Just walking distance to the rock. The First thing about the hostel is which is very much at the heart of na

ture; Elephants, Monkeys, Birds, and Bugs are everywhere in the area. We have one five-bed dorm with A/C. We also have private rooms with A/C. All total 03 rooms & 10 double Coleman tents. We also have a jeep to visit the national parks and bicycles for cycling around the village. Malith ( owner ) is a qualified safari driver in Sri Lanka. His father Nieel has also been a qualified tour guide since 1990. So if you have any questions about Sri Lanka you can get quick help from them. Every night, we offer delicious food cooked by local people in a great atmosphere where you get to know Malith and your fellow travelers! Breakfast and lunch are both available here, where we have mostly vegan and native dishes. Anotherworld Sigiriya is the perfect place for excursions to Dambulla, Pidurangala, Lion Rock & the ancient ruins city of Polonnaruwa, where we will be more than happy to help with any travel arrangements to any of these places. We teach and show you to fall in love with nature while you are getting maximum fun, relaxation, and education during your holiday with us. There is also a chance to have a fun experience with the local farmers and spend time in their rice fields and huts, or swim in the local natural lakes, with even a chance of sighting some elephants! Sri Lankan New Year Festival 2025 at Our Hostel!

What an unforgettable time we had celebrating Sinhala & Tamil New Year with our amazing guests and travelers from around the world right here at our jungle hostel!
A big THANK YOU to everyone who joined our cultural journey – laughing, playing, sharing meals, dancing, and making beautiful memories together!

Why do we celebrate this New Year?
In Sri Lanka, the New Year falls in April and is celebrated by both Sinhalese & Tamil communities as a mark of harvest, unity, and fresh beginnings. It’s not just a calendar change – it's a deep cultural tradition rooted in astrology, family bonds, rituals, food, and fun!

Here’s a quick glimpse of what it’s all about:

☀️ New Year Begins (Aluth Avurudda / Puthandu)
New Year starts with the sun moving from Pisces to Aries – a symbolic shift marking prosperity and good fortune.

🔥 Nonagathe (Neutral Time)
A quiet, spiritual time where we pause from work, visit temples, and reflect – a peaceful break before the celebrations begin.

⏰ Auspicious Times
Every activity – from lighting the hearth to starting meals – is done at specific times for good luck and blessings!

🥥 Traditional Food
Kiribath (milk rice), kokis, bananas, sweetmeats, and spicy delights fill the table – shared with love among friends and family!

🥳 Avurudu Games & Fun
From tug of war, lime & spoon races, pillow fights, to musical chairs – the fun never ends!
Even tourists joined us and played like locals!

❤️ Community & Unity
This is the time for forgiveness, new friendships, and giving. We danced, sang, and even shared cultural rituals under one sky!

We Celebrate to Connect – to nature, to tradition, and most importantly, to each other.
From the jungle to the world, we sent out good vibes, smiles, and peace!

🎯🥊 Kottapora – The Pillow Fight of Legends! 🥊🎯

One of the crowd-favorite moments during our New Year Festival was the classic Sri Lankan game Kottapora – and it brought so much laughter and friendly chaos! 😄

In this traditional game, two brave players sit on a horizontal bar suspended above the ground 🪵, balancing carefully while trying to knock each other off using only pillows! 🛏️💥

The rules are simple:

Stay balanced

Swing that pillow with style

And try not to fall! 😆

It’s all about fun, friendly competition, and teamwork – and seeing both locals and travelers take part with so much joy was unforgettable. This is the true spirit of the New Year: laughing together, cheering each other on, and making lifelong memories. 💛🙌

🌾✨ A Celebration of Culture, Unity & New Beginnings – Sinhala & Hindu New Year 2025 ✨🌾

On April 10th, something truly special happened at Another World Hostel Sigiriya – a heartfelt tribute to Sri Lankan tradition, community, and connection.

We welcomed travelers from around the globe, the respected Sigiriya Police, honorable guests from the village, and our hostel family to take part in one of the most meaningful celebrations in our culture – the Sinhala & Hindu New Year Festival. 🇱🇰

Our day was filled with joy, color, and deep-rooted rituals that have brought Sri Lankan families together for generations:

🥥 “Kiribath” (Milk Rice) Ritual – At the auspicious time, we lit the hearth, boiled milk until it overflowed (symbolizing prosperity), and prepared the first meal of the new year. This sacred moment was shared by all, reminding us of abundance and new beginnings.

🍽️ National Meal Time – At exactly the same moment, millions of Sri Lankans across the island sat together with their families and loved ones to enjoy their first meal of the New Year. We joined in this moment, surrounded by locals and travelers – one table, one heart, one Sri Lanka.

🪘 Cultural drumming
🔥 Fire rituals
🎧 And a night of music and togetherness under the stars

It was more than an event – it was a bridge between cultures, a celebration of peace, and a memory that will last forever.
