Manchmal braucht man einfach eine kleine Abkühlung…
Nur ein paar Minuten von uns entfernt gibt es einen Ort, der irgendwie alles hat:
Dschungel, Pools, Hängeseile zum Reinspringen (ja, mutig sein lohnt sich) und ganz viel Spaß.
Leisure Land Galle ist so ein typischer „Sri Lanka Tag“ Spot –
ein bisschen wild, nicht perfekt… aber genau das macht ihn besonders.
Ehrlich gesagt: Wir lieben solche Orte.
Nicht geschniegelt, nicht geschniegelt – sondern einfach echt.

Leisure Land Galle is one of those typical “Sri Lanka kind of days” spots –

Heute ist Vesak!
Einer der wichtigsten Tage in Sri Lanka – und ganz ehrlich: auch einer der schönsten.
Überall leuchten Laternen, Straßen werden zu kleinen Lichtwelten und es liegt eine ganz besondere Ruhe in der Luft.
Menschen gehen in die Tempel, verbringen Zeit mit der Familie – und teilen Essen mit allen.
Ja, wirklich mit allen. Einfach so.
Für uns ist Vesak jedes Jahr wieder ein Moment zum Innehalten.
Ein bisschen langsamer, ein bisschen bewusster… und sehr, sehr besonders.
Wenn du einmal zur richtigen Zeit hier bist, wirst du verstehen, was wir meinen.
Today is Vesak!
One of the most important days in Sri Lanka – and honestly, one of the most beautiful.
Lights everywhere, lanterns glowing, and a calm feeling in the air that’s hard to describe.
People visit temples, spend time with family – and share food with everyone.
Yes… really with everyone.
For us, Vesak is always a moment to slow down.
A little quieter, a little more mindful… and very special.

Ein Tag am Meer

Am Morgen in Dewata.
Noch ruhig, fast leer.
Nur das Meer, ein paar Wellen und dieser langsame Start in den Tag.

Am Nachmittag in Ahangama.
Mehr Leben, mehr Bewegung.
Surfer im Wasser, Stimmen am Strand, alles ein bisschen lauter.

Und am Abend in Unawatuna.
Das Licht wird weicher,
alles wird wieder ruhiger
und der Tag klingt langsam aus.

Drei Orte. Ein Gefühl.
Und genau das lieben wir hier.

A day by the ocean

Morning in Dewata.
Still quiet, almost empty.
Just the ocean, a few waves and a slow start into the day.

Afternoon in Ahangama.
More life, more movement.
Surfers in the water, voices on the beach, everything a bit louder.

And evening in Unawatuna.
The light gets softer,
everything slows down again
and the day gently comes to an end.

Three places.
One feeling.
And that’s exactly what we love about it.

Die beste Banane der Welt?
Wir sagen: in Sri Lanka!
Hier gibt es über 20 verschiedene Sorten –
klein, groß, süß, weich, manchmal sogar ein bisschen sauer.
Und ganz ehrlich…
keine schmeckt wie die, die wir aus Europa kennen.

Süßer. - Intensiver. Einfach besser.

Für uns ganz normal – für viele unserer Gäste eine kleine Überraschung.
Und meistens endet es so,
dass man plötzlich jeden Tag eine isst.
The best banana in the world?
We say: in Sri Lanka!
There are more than 20 different types here –
small, big, sweet, soft, sometimes even a little sour.
And honestly…
none of them taste like the ones we know from Europe.

Sweeter. - More intense. - Simply better.

For us, it’s normal – for many of our guests, a small surprise.
And usually it ends the same way:
you start eating one every day 🍌

Heute steht Sri Lanka für einen Moment still…
Heute beginnt hier das Sinhala & Tamil New Year.
Aber vielleicht anders, als man es erwartet.

Der 13. April ist kein lauter Feiertag –
sondern eine Zeit dazwischen.
Zwischen dem alten und dem neuen Jahr.
Für ein paar Stunden wird alles ruhig.
Keine Arbeit, kein Alltag.
Man bleibt zu Hause, ist mit der Familie zusammen
und lässt das alte Jahr langsam gehen.

Erst am nächsten Tag beginnt das neue Jahr wirklich –
mit Kochen, Essen und gemeinsamen Momenten.
Für uns ist das nichts Besonderes,
sondern einfach Teil unseres Lebens hier.
Und genau das teilen wir gerne mit euch.
Today, Sri Lanka slows down for a moment
Today marks the beginning of Sinhala & Tamil New Year.
But maybe not in the way you expect.

The 13th of April is not a loud celebration –
it’s a quiet time in between.
Between the old year and the new year.
For a few hours, everything becomes still.
No work, no daily routine.
People stay at home, spend time with family
and gently let go of the old year.

The real celebration starts the next day –
with cooking, eating and being together.
For us, this is not something special –
it’s simply part of our life here.
And that’s what we love to share with you.

Was bei uns in der Küche passiert… 🌿
Heute kein Restaurant, kein fancy Dessert…
sondern einfach Mama in der Küche 🤍
Aus Kurakkan, Kokos und Kithul entsteht hier Halapa –
ein traditioneller sri-lankischer Sweet,
eingewickelt in ein Blatt.
Wir sind damit aufgewachsen.
Für viele unserer Gäste ist es das erste Mal.
Und genau das lieben wir am meisten:
diese kleinen Momente zu teilen,
die für uns ganz normal sind.

Today no restaurant, no fancy dessert…
just mum in the kitchen 🤍
Made with kurakkan, coconut and kithul,
this is called Halapa –
a traditional Sri Lankan sweet wrapped in a leaf.
We grew up with this.
For many of our guests, it’s their first time trying it.
And that’s what we love most:
sharing the little everyday moments of our life here.

**Was Gäste uns immer fragen **

☕️ Frühstück?
→ Haben wir nicht.
Aber ehrlich… wollt ihr auch gar nicht 😄
5 Minuten um die Ecke gibt’s so viele kleine Cafés,
dass ihr jeden Tag woanders frühstücken könnt.
(Meistens starten unsere Gäste eh mit Kaffee und Meer 🌊)

💻 WLAN?
→ Ja. Und zwar richtig gut.
So gut, dass wir irgendwann dachten:
ok… wir brauchen wohl eine kleine Arbeitsecke 😅

🛒 Supermarkt?
→ Food City – 5 Minuten zu Fuß.
Für Wasser, Snacks oder…
die tägliche Portion Süßigkeiten für unsere kleine Nachbarin 😄

Am Ende ist es genau das, was FlipFlop ausmacht:
kein Hotel, kein fix fertig Paket…
sondern einfach Leben hier. 🌿

☕️ Breakfast?
→ We don’t have it.
But honestly… you wouldn’t want it anyway 😄
There are so many small cafés around the corner,
you can have a different breakfast every day.
(Most of our guests start with coffee and the ocean 🌊)

💻 WiFi?
→ Yes. And it’s really good.
Good enough that we ended up adding a little workspace 😅

🛒 Supermarket?
→ Food City – 5 minutes walk.
For water, snacks or…
the daily sweets for our little neighbour 😄

In the end, that’s what FlipFlop is about:
not a hotel, not a fixed package…
just real life here. 🌿
