Most visit Weligama for the surf, but leave missing its soul. Just minutes away lies the Agrabodhi Raja Maha Viharaya, a 2,000-year-old sanctuary where the village rhythm is anchored in timeless peace.

We remove our shoes and walk across at the Moonstone (Sandakada Pahana), a symbolic path to enlightenment, then enter the Pilimaya (Image House) to witness the Buddha’s journey.

We received the Pirith Nool (blessed thread) and performed a flower offering (Mal Pujava) as an offering of gratitude done with intention and care.

The most sacred part of this ancient temple is the 2,000-year-old Bo tree a living, sacred descendant of the original tree of enlightenment, serving as a powerful, breathing link to the Buddha’s own awakening.

🙏🏼TEMPLE ETIQUETTE:
Remove your shoes at the entrance
Wear white or light-colored, modest clothing to symbolize purity and equality.
Keep your heart toward the Buddha, never turn your back to the statues, and always walk clockwise around sacred objects.

🌳HOW TO VISIT:
Each morning at 6:30 AM and evening at 6:30 PM, a Bodhi Pooja is held; you are welcome to observe, and it is a beautiful gesture to bring flowers and incense as offerings.
It is free to visit!

As pet parents ourselves, we’ve always known that gut-wrenching feeling of leaving your furry family behind. So since 2016, through every Foozoo Mantra property we’ve operated, we made a simple decision: they’re welcome here too.

At our heritage villa in Weligama, this philosophy continues. Your beloved companions can join you – just reach out beforehand so we can discuss any specific needs and charges (we keep it reasonable and flexible, promise!).

You’ll also meet our resident crew: Malli the Dog (good luck catching him!), Mama Cat (the matriarch), and Mr. Independent Toffee the Cat. Plus our visiting cast of cheeky monkeys, wandering iguanas, and the Frog and Toad Philharmonic Symphony on certain rainy nights.

Fair warning: we had to relocate some of our pets when a few guests weren’t understanding, but we’re still here, still welcoming, still believing that all creatures deserve love.
