One cannot underestimate how difficult it is to convey the beauty of Halala Kanda and time and time again guests tell us that the photos don’t reflect the property. All over Sri Lanka are colonial Victorian styled houses but with romantic Portuguese porticos at the entrance. Built centuries after the Portuguese left the island (1658), yet clearly this wonderful embellishment was the look du jour. Halala Kanda was built by a wealthy Sri Lankan in 1912. Behind it are lovely verandahs, perfect for watching the world go by.
