A rare, close-range encounter with one of Yala’s most efficient raptors.
The changeable hawk eagle is usually spotted perched high on tall trees, scanning the forest for movement. Captured by our Experience Curator at Yala Block 5, this creature had shifted to a lower and more sheltered perch, a behaviour often seen during wet weather when smaller animals move more openly. With their sharp vision and adaptable hunting patterns, changeable hawk eagles adjust quickly to these conditions, using the cover and stability of lower branches to conserve energy and watch for movement.
A moment that reflects how wildlife responds to the changing rhythm of the landscape.
