KA MPELI

A closed hand cannot give; nor can it receive. “Etsa mpeli”, we were taught: open your hands, give generously, receive humbly—with both hands.

LEE is honored to present “KA MPELI”, a group art exhibition exploring how community and individuality shape one another through the deep-rooted principle of giving and receiving. The exhibition brings together Basotho artists whose work embodies the principle of MPELI, using art as a means to conserve and transfer indigenous knowledge.

Taking place in Butha-Buthe at Nala Guest-House, the exhibition is an offering of significance inviting Basotho to hold hands and engage in conversations about our founding principles as a people, their slow disappearance from the collective consciousness, and what that means for our future.
