The magic of winter has returned to the mountains bringing our second snow episode of the season on June 5th 2026!

Yesterday our team got to see Thaba Putsoa Mountain Range covered in a fresh white blanket, and by this morning, the snow reached us here at Semonkong Lodge.

It is always such a special time for us here, watching the valley transform and seeing our guests experience the magic of the snow.

Winter has arrived in the Maluti Mountains. The month begins with frosty mornings as the landscape transitions into shades of gold.

While the early mornings and late afternoons are chilly, the days reward us with clear blue skies. Out in Semonkong town, the local mills are busy and you can find a popular local snack, braai-ed mielies available by the road side.

At Semonkong Lodge, our fireplaces are roaring. The Duck n Donkey is ready for the cold season. We serve hot coffee alongside our hearty meals to keep you warm after a day of mountain exploration.

One of the most frequent questions we get is about our altitude. To reach us here at Semonkong Lodge, your journey takes you over the spectacular Thaba Putsoa range, where peaks go over 3,000m. You’ll cross a mountain pass at 2,800m before descending into our valley, where the lodge sits at 2,200m.

To put that into perspective, Lesotho is home to the highest point in Southern Africa, which reaches a staggering 3,482m!

Living and operating at this height is what makes the Maluti Mountains so special.
