Last month, we had the opportunity to visit the renovation of the train station in Mons (Belgium), led by the renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The new multimodal station, with an innovative and futuristic design, features approximately 2.000m2 of curved and flat glass that requires regular cleaning and maintenance.
For this reason, the station has been equipped with 3.000m of fall protection and rope access rail systems supplied by Fallprotec SL to ensure the safety of workers performing maintenance and cleaning tasks. The rail has been painted in white to blend with the aesthetics of Calatrava's characteristic minimalist design. It is a must-visit if you're in Mons.

Working on top of trucks poses a high risk of falling from heights. However, setting up ground-based safety systems may not always be feasible, particularly in situations like unloading on a construction site where the site's structure or maneuverability makes it challenging to install safety equipment.

To address the risk of falls from truck tops, Fallprotec S.A installed a secured walkway on top of the truck, utilizing the compact Securail Pro rail. The walkway allows operators to safely access the valves while incorporating a retractable fall arrester to prevent falls within the first few centimeters. The addition of a guardrail ensures easy and secure movement on the truck.

This solution enables customers to transport goods in tankers, including cement, milk, cereals, liquids, powders, oil, gas, and plastics, while having a safety system with them at all times, ensuring their safety and the integrity of their machine.

The rail provides the highest level of safety and freedom of movement for working on machines in tight spaces. At a cement factory loading bay, the rail was installed overhead, with a safety factor of 0, eliminating the need for workers to crouch. The trolley runs along the entire length of the rail, following the user at all times to keep the minimum possible distance between the two anchor points, which are the trolley (mobile anchor point) and the anchor on the back of the harness. This configuration prevents the pendulum effect and enhances safety. Additionally, the rail is slightly inclined, allowing the trolley to return to its parking position automatically and freeing up space for trucks.

However, in order to preserve the quality of the stored food and prevent contamination, silos must be regularly maintained. Typically, access to silos is restricted, with narrow entry dimensions and only accessible from the top.

1️⃣ Maintenance of the electrical connections and fixings.
2️⃣ Running an electroluminescent test for potential hotspots.
3️⃣ Cleaning of the panels themselves.
