I hope you are all safe and well.
I have just posted a video asking for support for my business due to the situation that has been created here in Morocco because of the COVID 19 pandemic.
I have been working in the tourism sector for the past 16 years; I have created two surf-tourism companies in Taghazout but things didnโt go as planned and thatโs life!
I moved to Tamraght in March 2017, with no money in my bank account but I was lucky to have people in my life, that I refer to as angels, who lent me a substantial amount of money in the beginning of the โBagus-Tamraghtโ project.
The house needed a lot of work both in terms of investing money, and โblood, sweat and tearsโ by the Bagus team, in order to reach the highest level possible of comfort for our guests. After trading for a few years, we decided to build our Beautiful Yoga Shala last year, so we could start hosting yoga retreats and YTTC for our guests.
To finance this, we invested all the money we had and I borrowed a lot of money from several people. This was a calculated risk, because I knew that we would work our asses off throughout 2020 to pay it off, and I had a lot of โtrustedโ Yoga teachers promising to bring retreats if we had a credible Shala.
Butโฆbest laid plansโฆ2020 came and so the covid-19 crisis came with it. We were so excited about what 2020 was going to bring and were expecting our best year ever, enabling us to pay our debts offโฆ but obviously our dreams turned into a nightmare as COVID hit and Morocco shut its borders to the tourists who are our livelihood.
Since March this year we have had no income. In the beginning of the lockdown, our landlord was being supportive but in the last months he has been demanding that I backpay rent from April through to now and that I continue to pay full rent for the foreseeable future. There is no support for small business like mine in Morocco, and the banks wonโt lend me money without providing collateral guarantees which I just donโt have.
A few days ago, my landlord sent me a letter through his lawyer, saying that I must pay within 15 days. He is a business man; in one sense I donโt blame him because if we were not here he could turn the hostel into flats and rent them out easilyโฆbut on the flip side, he can see that this situation is not of our making and it is totally out of my hands when tourists will return. He also knows that I have invested my lifeโs work (financially and emotionally) in Bagus and it would break me to walk away from it. So, itโs a tricky situationโฆ
Soโฆas much as I hate having to do this, I am here to ask for help from anyone that can to help us save the business, to help us live, and to help not lose all the money and the work we put into the camp in the past 3 years.
I know the crisis is impacting each and everyone of us but I believe that we can get through this crisis with your help!!
We need financial aid and there is several options if you want to help from us. You can pre-buy a holiday with us or you can give a donation of your preferred amount. Any donation is welcome and we will be incredibly grateful for anything.
Once again, I am sorry to put this on you my friends and family, but you can image that for a proud Moroccan like me to write this I am very desperate.
I will be ready to answer every question you have, please just reach out.
I have set up several options to making the donation process or buying the pre-paid holiday, so please ask me and I will let you know how you can help.
Thank you for reading
Love, health and peace to you all
