If you are hiking through the Aït Mizane Valley in October watch out for falling walnuts 🌳🍃
Walnuts are traditionally harvested by hitting the upper branches of the trees vigorously with long sticks - either from the ground or by first climbing up into the treetops. The fallen nuts are then collected from the ground and dried in the sun to remove any remaining skin.
Either eaten as snacks, in tajines or in pastries, walnuts are not only tasty, they are also good to replenish your energy during or after a long hike.
Although most walnuts are sold at the souk, Abdou Boussalem always has a stash at Gite Tamsoulte for you to snack on.
