Winter is slowing coming to an end in the High Atlas - but the highest peaks are still full of snow ❄️🌨️

Look at the winter-wonderland that Abdou experienced with his climbers just three weeks ago on the way to Adrar Toubkal!

Mint tea and Morocco are quasi synonymous. But at Gite Tamsoulte you’ll smell something distinctly lemon-y from your evening tea pot.

Luisa - maybe better known as Lemon Verbena - not only tastes delicious, it is also very healthy. From helping you relax in the evening and getting a good night’s rest to healing inflammation (like your painful knees after a long day of hiking), Luisa is a staple of Morocco cuisine and medicine.

Abdou Boussalem grows Luisa in his garden and will prepare you fresh tea whenever you want. So sit on the rooftop, enjoy the view and drink a hot glass of Luisa 🫖🍋🍃

There is so much more to trekking in Morocco than just Toubkal 🥾⛺️

From a moderate two-day hike to the impressive Cascades d’Irhoulidene in the Assif n’Ouissadene Valley to a strenuous three-day trek to Setti Fatma - Imlil is a great starting point to explore the Atlas Mountains.

And if you have more time in Morocco, there are near-endless possibilities to enjoy the mountains. The Yagour Plateau with its 3000-years-old stone engravings is only a short distance away, as is the green and fertile Tessaout Valley. In both places you’ll feel like you travelled back in time.

Talk to Abdou Boussalem and Hïč Häm about the different trek options. Many can be done without a guide (if you are experienced trekkers), for others - such as the ascent of Ighil Mgoun - going with a guide is highly recommended.

If you are hiking through the Aït Mizane Valley in October watch out for falling walnuts 🌳🍃

Walnuts are traditionally harvested by hitting the upper branches of the trees vigorously with long sticks - either from the ground or by first climbing up into the treetops. The fallen nuts are then collected from the ground and dried in the sun to remove any remaining skin.

Either eaten as snacks, in tajines or in pastries, walnuts are not only tasty, they are also good to replenish your energy during or after a long hike.

Although most walnuts are sold at the souk, Abdou Boussalem always has a stash at Gite Tamsoulte for you to snack on.

Early October is apple season in the High Atlas mountains. If you visit us at Gite Tamsoulte during this time, you’ll see all the apples being harvested and transported to Asni, Marrakech and Agadir.

Of course we keep plenty of apples for our visitors and trekkers - there’s nothing much better than enjoying freshly harvested 🍏🍎 from our own fruit orchard on the hike up to Toubkal.

Our guests from Andorra are enjoying the views of Mezzik/Mzik. The Berber village is only a short 10min walk from the center of Imlil, yet you feel a noticeable difference.

This here is a working village that allows you to glimpse into the Berber lifestyle away from the tourist busses, shops and restaurants of Imlil.

Happy, tired, proud - all the things you feel on the way back from the summit of Jbel Toubkal to Imlil.

After a quick rest at the CAF Refuge de Toubkal we retrace our steps to the gate of the Parc National de Toubkal المنتزه الوطني لتوبقال. Mint tea and a tajine are already waiting for us at Gite Tamsoulte.
