Discover the Living Art of Rif Basket Weaving
A Full-Day Immersive Workshop with Artisan Khadija Chabach
Spend a day discovering the traditional art of basket weaving in the heart of the Rif Mountains, guided by local artisan Khadija Chabach.
Begin with Moroccan tea and an introduction to the history and cultural importance of basket weaving in rural Rif communities. Learn how natural fibres are prepared, then get hands-on as Khadija guides you step by step in creating your own traditional basket.
Enjoy a homemade Rif lunch made with fresh, seasonal local ingredients before returning to the workshop to complete your creation and learn traditional finishing techniques.
At the end of the day, take home your own handmade basket—a unique souvenir and a tangible connection to the living heritage of the Rif.

**Celebrating the extraordinary diversity of Moroccan textiles.**

Our programme designer and engine-room master, Jess Stephens, will share her exploration of Moroccan textiles from the field, gathered through years of ethnographic research and our Textile Quest journeys.

From tiny hand-woven textile buttons to heavily embroidered saddles, knotted carpets, woven cloth and and more! Jess will take you on a journey through some of the remarkable and sometimes unexpected textile practices encountered on Textile Quest, Morocco.

There’ll also be a slot at the end to ask questions and find out more about our next textile-centric trip around Morocco, taking place in April/May 2027.
