We were delighted to host our guest Emma at our family homestay Dar Lala Zhour, as part of a Culture Vultures experience led by Jessica. During her stay, our adorable guest Emma took part in our winter daily-life activities, including a two-day engaging pottery workshop and olive picking, fully immersing herself in local rural life

Cultural Tours in the Rif Mountains – Discover the Soul of Rural Morocco

Experience an authentic cultural immersion in the heart of the Rif Mountains with Dar Lala Zhour . Our guided tours invite you to connect with the deep traditions, ancestral crafts, and daily life of the Rif people.

Start your journey from Dar Lala Zhour, a warm family homestay nestled among olive groves and pine forests and walk around Sidi Masoud mountain. From here, you’ll explore nearby villages, sacred shrines, and workshops around the mountain that reveal the living heritage of northern Morocco.

Highlights of the Cultural Tour:

Pottery Village of Ain Bouchrik – Visit the potter family led by Zhour and discover the ancestral art of hand-building clay, painting, and firing pottery using traditional earth kilns.

Shrine of Sidi Masoud – Step into a spiritual space that reflects the deep link between religion, nature, and local beliefs.

Village of Hadadin – Meet local blacksmiths and farmers who preserve traditional skills and sustainable farming practices.

Culinary Encounters – Share tea or a home-cooked meal with local families and discover the flavors of authentic Rif cuisine.

Each visit is guided with respect for local communities and traditions, offering travelers a meaningful experience rooted in cultural exchange, sustainability, and authenticity.

Come and explore the Rif through its people, crafts, and sacred landscapes — where every story, smile, and gesture tells a part of Morocco’s living heritage.

During our tour, we stopped at Zhour’s pottery family in Ain Bouchrik to introduce our guests to the traditional art of pottery practiced by women in the Rif mountains and give them insight into her ancestral hand-building techniques through a short, hands-on demonstration!

As we paused along the Sidi Masoud trail near the pottery village of Ainbouchrik during our guided hike, I introduced our guests to the fascinating world of Rif pottery — handmade with earth, water, and passion — before visiting a local potter’s family for a short pottery demonstration.

Today, I was pleased to guide a group of Dutch guests in a hands-on cooking class — from garden to table — at Dar Lala Zhour , under the guidance of our talented cooks Meriem and Rachida, with the kind help of Ismail Lhlimi . 👩‍🍳 The experience began with harvesting fresh seasonal ingredients from my uncle’s garden and preparing them together at home. 🍆🥕🍋

Love and passion, along with the magic fingers of our cooks and the use of locally sourced ingredients, are the secrets behind our flavorful dishes. Be a part of Dar Lala Zhour family and book with us one of our authentic hands on activities!
