Some places disappear from maps long before they disappear from the landscape.

Empty corridors. Unfinished buildings. Forgotten villages, factories and roads that seem to lead nowhere.

These places rarely appear in guidebooks — and that is exactly why we look for them.

Beyond the usual itineraries, we also explore abandoned places, forgotten corners and rural areas of Transnistria / Pridnestrovie and Moldova.

No standard route. No tourist crowds. Sometimes we simply know where to turn.

Countries disappear. Shoes keep walking.

Two guests, one travelling couple, staying with us in Tiraspol — and two rather special pairs of shoes.

One of them is an artist, so perhaps it’s not surprising that even the shoes came with a story.

They are ZEHA — a German sports brand strongly connected with the sporting history of East Germany. Decades after the GDR disappeared from the map, its design is still travelling.

This time, it walked through our guest house in Tiraspol.

People travel. Artists create. Borders change. Countries disappear. Ideologies come and go.

Good shoes just keep walking.

Young Pioneer City Walking Tour — the one that didn’t want to end. 😄

Today in Tiraspol we were joined by six great comrades from Italy 🇮🇹 and a very special guest — Moroccan travel creator Soufiane OTTMANI | Travel & Lifestyle based in France 🇲🇦🇫🇷.

What was supposed to be a regular city tour turned into a much longer adventure. We walked, talked, explored Tiraspol and discovered plenty of hidden gems that weren’t even in the original itinerary.

History, Soviet heritage, everyday life, unexpected places, lots of questions, conversations and good laughs along the way.

Sometimes the best tours are the ones that simply refuse to follow the schedule.

Big thanks to Soufiane for joining us and for the great collaboration — and, of course, to our Italian comrades for such a fantastic day!

Today we had a very interesting guest from Japan せーじ🇯🇵 , travelling with a simple single-use film camera — one shot, one moment, no second chances.

A great conversation, a pleasant meeting, and another reminder that sometimes the simplest camera can make travelling and photography more meaningful.

We wish him good luck on his journey and with his photography — and we really hope that the little water incident won’t affect his equipment or his future pictures. :)

We walked through the city and talked. A lot.

About Tiraspol and its past. About Transnistria / Pridnestrovie. About how the city was built and how it changed. Soviet urban planning, architecture, identity, everyday life — and what it actually means to live here today.

Because sometimes the best way to understand a place is not to collect facts or monuments, but simply to walk its streets, look around, ask questions and talk to the people who live there.

Tiraspol is a city that makes much more sense when you take your time with it.

Glory & War Tour

New great day in Transnistria / Pridnestrovie with John and Lindsay from Wales, together with Jack and Alex from the USA.

John and Lindsay are experienced travellers who love authentic places and getting off the beaten track. Jack and Alex, students from leading American universities, share the same adventurous spirit — they study languages, travel extensively and are always eager to explore places that many tourists just skip.

Together we explored the highlights of Tiraspol, crossed the Dniester on the old military ferry, visited the beautiful Kitskany Monastery, had a snack at the monastery café and continued to Bender with its impressive fortress and many military memorials.

And of course, no visit to Transnistria would be complete without holy golubtsi, zamorskaya ikra (zucchini caviar) and a proper Soviet-style borshch in a classic USSR canteen СТОЛОВАЯ СССР .

As always - unplanned- the highlight of the day? Celebrating Alla’s birthday — a true local legend who has been saving the souls of weary pilgrims for years, one carefully measured glass at a time 🍷🍹🍺 Yes, we love KVAS as well ;-)

Cycling Red Streets in Tiraspol with Walerie from the Netherlands.

Today we explored Tiraspol on two wheels — from the busy central market and Lenin monument to the Tank Monument, Memorial of Glory and many other iconic Soviet landmarks.

We cycled along 25th October Street, talked about the Soviet past and modern-day Transnistria, stopped for tea, coffee and traditional kvass, and simply enjoyed a great day discovering one of Europe’s most unusual capitals. “It was surprisingly unexpected coincidence that medical education is our common background 🤝💚” - Dmitri Gavrilov

A special surprise was that Walerie speaks excellent Russian, which made our conversations even more interesting and allowed us to dive deeper into the history, culture and everyday life of this unique region.

Sometimes the best way to discover a city is slowly, by bike ( main road is not the best choice as local drivers keen not to respect weely ‼️⚠️

We were truly delighted to welcome Cecilia .tru from Italy to Lenin Guesthouse & Tours 🇮🇹

Cecilia is not only a professional tour guide working with a major international travel company, but also a truly wonderful person — a thoughtful companion, an engaging conversationalist, and simply a pleasure to host.
