Loikaw Lodge, located in the town of Loikaw, Kayah State, Myanmar, is a new, small, family owned “boutique” hotel that has twelve beautifully crafted rooms that provide space, light and great comfort. Teak-paneled floors and wooden furniture, all designed in-house and made locally, create a warm and cozy feeling. Locally hand-woven tribal fabrics add color splashes to the interior. R.I.P. KO NAY MOE AUNG: It is with great sadness that we have learned about the death of our (young) business partner and industry colleague Ko Nay Moe Aung (third from the right in the photo) this morning. With his travel agency "Nine Generations" here in Loikaw he passionately promoted Kayah State as a tourist destination and managed to put it on the global travel map, handling guests from all over the world. He consistently supported the community based tourism initiatives right from the start when even within Myanmar hardly anyone knew about the diversity and beauty of Kayah State as a travel destination. What united us and what we shared was the passion for Kayah and its amazing people and the believe in a better and peaceful future for the communities through a sustainable tourism development. As a matter of fact, Kayah State's nascent tourism has been thriving until COViD hit. He did succumb to COViD eventually and leaves behind his wife and two small children. He also leaves behind a great legacy as without him Kayah would not be known in many parts of the world now as a place of rich and unique travel experiences. Kayah will always remember you and so will we, brother!
