Situated three hours from the commercial capital of Yangon, the distinct Sanctum Inle Resort is designed to inspire contemplation through its off-the-beaten-path location and architectural flourishes that invoke monastic traditions, such as Spanish-style arches and minimalistic (but supremely modern) room designs imagined by Paris-based Brigitte Dumont de Chassart. Rooms range in size from 38 to 150 square meters, all feature lofty ceilings, natural wood floors, plush beds, air-conditioning and cable TV. Sanctum Inle Resort satisfies guests’ appetite for both local and Western dishes at The Refectory Restaurant, whose mix of indoor and outdoor seating can accommodate up to 70 people. The wide-ranging menu celebrates must-eat standards of the Shan culinary arts, from noodles and soups to fresh garden salads. Traditional favorites are also available at The Cloister Bar, an elegant hangout whose beverage inventory includes a wide selection of Myanmar-brewed beers and a short list of exquisite international wines. At The Sanctuary Spa, an array of treatment rooms await those with a desire to revivify the mind, body and spirit. The signature experience is the Inner Sanctum Journey, which starts with a tamarind skin exfoliation, continues with either an Aromatic Bliss or Swedish massage and ends with a cleansing facial. The feeling of detachment is further underscored at The Chapter House, a quiet, comfortable space with an ever-growing library of books and board games. Should business travelers wish to retreat to Sanctum Inle Resort, the room can be transformed into the ideal venue for a group meeting.
