We have had many things written about Three Camel Lodge over the years. Katie Lockhart's review for Hotels Above Par might be our favourite opening line yet 🌟

Katie spent time with us in the Gobi and wrote about the slate stone carried one by one from a nearby mountain top to cover the ger bathrooms, the Gobi Sunrise cocktail at the Thirsty Camel Bar, stargazing through the partial skylight from bed, and waking to semi-wild horses running across the desert at dawn. She gave us five stars and called it an otherworldly getaway.

Meet our artist in residence: H. Suren 🤎

A graphic designer turned art director, Suren has built her practice around printmaking, with cyanotype at its heart. The process uses sunlight to develop the image, which makes the Gobi one of the most extraordinary natural studios she could have chosen.

During her residency she has been working on Anchored Lines, a 2027 exhibition, while offering guests a cyanotype workshop that includes dyeing specially prepared fabric scarves. The idea of leaving the Gobi with something literally developed by Gobi sunlight stays with us.

Have you ever tried printmaking? 👇

Behind every horseback ride at our lodge is a relationship that means a great deal to us.

The horses our guests ride are bred and cared for by Bundkhorol, a local Mongolian horse breeder, whose family has worked with horses on this steppe for generations. When you ride out into the Gobi with one of his horses beneath you, you are part of something that began long before this lodge existed and will continue long after. That connection to the people and families around us shapes everything about how we operate 🐎

Mongolian archery has been practiced on this steppe for over 3,000 years.

At Three Camel Lodge, guests try it themselves, guided by a local archer who has grown up with a bow in his hands. The form is unlike anything in a Western context: a thumb ring, a short and powerful recurve bow, a technique once used to win empires. Most guests take a few attempts to find their footing, but almost all of them ask for one more round 🏹

How is your aim? Tell us in the comments.

Some of the most memorable moments guests describe happen in the spa. After two days of riding, hiking, and exploring, handing yourself over to our therapists in a stone-walled treatment room with the desert outside the window is a particular kind of pleasure. Our lodge was always designed to restore as much as to inspire 🤎

This is where the restoring happens.

The question we hear most from families before they arrive: will my 𝒘𝒉𝒐𝒍𝒆 family love this?

Every time, yes. The younger ones want to know everything about the dinosaurs. Teenagers go quiet in the landscape in a way their parents have never quite seen before. Grandparents on horseback across the summer steppe. It happens every season, and watching it never gets old for us.

The Gobi is generous that way. Plan a family journey at the link in our bio.

We are in AFAR ⚜️

Three Camel Lodge has been named one of the world's best glamping retreats by AFAR, and it means a great deal to our team. What they captured in the feature is exactly what we have always aimed for: a stay that connects you to Mongolia's culture, people, landscape, and history in a way that feels genuinely immersive.

The gers are the accommodation, but the Gobi is the experience.

Meet the famous Bankhar 🐾

Fun fact: they are one of the oldest landrace dog breeds in Central Asia, developed over thousands of years by Mongolian nomads to protect their herds from wolves on the open steppe.

At their peak, hundreds of thousands of Bankhar worked across Mongolia. Today they are rare, due to decades of pressure and crossbreeding. Three Camel Lodge proudly supports the Mongolian Bankhar Dog Project, working to restore the breed's numbers and return them to the nomadic families who need them most.

Meeting one of these dogs during a stay here is one of those unexpected moments that ends up in every guest's story.

The Local Naadam Festival in the Gobi has just concluded, and we are still smiling about it 🏹

Archery, wrestling, horse racing on the open steppe alongside the local families who have kept this tradition alive for generations. No stadiums, no crowds. Just the Gobi, the competitors, and a celebration that has been playing out on this land for centuries.

Today also marks the start of the National Naadam Festival in Ulaanbaatar, running through July 13. Two celebrations, one shared spirit, honoring the same nomadic traditions across the country.

There is nothing quite like either one.

A day in Mongolia 🐪

Camel riding on the dunes, a ger that feels like home within the hour, the Flaming Cliffs doing something with light that no camera fully captures, milk tea with a nomad family, an electric bike across the open desert, and a traditional performance to end the evening.
