Our team went to work on something that matters to us deeply.

Thirty-six members of the Three Camel Lodge team headed out to Bayanzag for a full cleanup of the Flaming Cliffs, collecting close to 4 tons of waste from the surrounding landscape. Everything was transported to the Bulgan soum waste center, with plastic, metal, and cardboard separated out for recycling.

The day continued with a team trip to the Khongor sand dunes, where our staff split into four teams for a bit of friendly competition, including a 30-minute cleanup challenge to see who could collect the most trash from the area.

Fresh water in the Gobi is everything.

This building is actually our on-site well, that supplies the lodge, the surrounding community, and the animals that share this landscape with us. The camels, horses, and goats that roam the steppe around the lodge depend on it just as much as the nomadic families who live far from any formal infrastructure. Out here, a well is not a convenience. It is the thing that makes everything else possible.

Looking after this place, its people and its animals, has always been part of how we understand our responsibility to the Gobi.

Our founder Jalsa shared this Mongolian proverb during this yearโ€™s Beyond Green Global Leadership Summit, and it set the tone for everything that followed.

For four days in August, hospitality leaders from across the globe sat down with conservationists and cultural leaders from right here in Mongolia to talk about legacy. What do the choices we make today leave behind for the people and places that follow?

Between sessions, the Gobi did what it does best. A camel trek with a local herding family. Sunrise walks before the day began. Dinner at the Flaming Cliffs as the canyon turned gold.

After dinner, as the Gobi settles into its nighttime quiet, musicians, throat singers, and folk performers take the floor. These are artists who have grown up carrying a musical heritage that stretches back centuries across the nomadic steppe. The traditional style of throat singing from the Altai mountains, khoomei, produces sounds that stop people mid-conversation.

There are very few places on earth where a moment like this finds you after a meal.
