In the summer of 2010 while making a journey with friends through Mongolia, Belgian Kat Elsen met Baterdene Bayarmagnai, on the way back from Murun to Ulaanbaatar. Out of this encounter ripened the seed for refurbishing Harganat ger camp started by Baterdene in 2007 on a sandbank overlooking the stunning Delger Murun river valley.

A unique and special place to be.

Harganat River lodge offers a spectacular bird’s eye view over the whole Delger Murun river valley. Thousands of sheep and goats, hundreds of horses and cows pass to drink from the pure water sources that come up from deep below the earth. In autumn camels arrive from the steppes to spend winter in the river’s forest where they find abundant food available. Many water birds like white heron eat fresh fish from the water(stream). Almost daily the white tailed eagle is sitting on the remains of what locals call the shaman tree. When sitting in the restaurant you can look down to the tree and watch these magnificent birds resting while overlooking the valley. In summer the soft green meadows are full of the famous rare Alpine flower Edelweiss that amongst other wildflowers finds a safe haven on land. The restaurant is built next to a 4000 year old bronze age grave called kirigsuur. They consist of a pile of stones in a circular or square pattern depending on the s*x of the person that was buried. The two meter deep graves have on the east side little stone circles containing ritual offerings. Towards the Holy mountains on the north side of our lodge the grounds are scattered with the archeological remains of the bronze age.
