A Bond Between Man & Eagle 🦅 🇲🇳

Imagine a crisp winter morning outside Ulaanbaatar, with snow covered hills around you, the cold air on your face, and a golden eagle resting calmly on a hunter’s arm. ❄️

The Ulaanbaatar Eagle Festival is a beautiful way to experience Mongolia in winter while getting close to one of the country’s most fascinating traditions.

You’ll meet eagle hunters dressed in traditional clothing, see powerful golden eagles up close, watch incredible demonstrations, and enjoy traditional music, games, and cultural performances. 🏔️

But the heart of the experience is the relationship between the hunter and the eagle.

Years of patience, trust, care, and knowledge go into building this bond. For the hunters, their eagles are much more than birds used for competition. They are part of their heritage and a tradition passed down through generations. ❤️

With the snowy landscape as your backdrop, you can meet the people behind this tradition, hear their stories, and experience a side of Mongolian winter that feels both powerful and deeply personal.

✨ Come into the winter, meet the eagle hunters, and witness a tradition that continues to take flight.

📍 Location: Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

🐎 340 km, 11 Days & So Many Memories 🇲🇳

Meet Richard, who spent 11 days on horseback travelling 340 km through the beautiful landscapes of Arkhangai with our Fairfield team. 🐎🏔️

There were long days in the saddle, quiet valleys, open steppe, mountains, rivers, and plenty of moments that can only happen when you slow down and experience Mongolia on horseback.

What we remember most, though, is not just the distance he covered. It’s the lovely words Richard shared about his time with us. 💛

He spoke about our team, our food, the guesthouse, and how comfortable he felt staying with us. He even described Fairfield as a “home away from home.” 🏡

That really means a lot.

For us, Fairfield has always been about more than arranging trips. We love welcoming people, getting to know them, helping them find their way around Mongolia, and hopefully giving them a place where they can relax and feel at home along the way.

Richard, thank you for trusting us with your journey and for sharing your experience with fellow travellers. 🙏

And if you're dreaming about your own horse adventure through Mongolia, come talk to us. You don't need to have everything figured out. Tell us what you're imagining, and we'll help you build it. 🇲🇳

A Journey to Meet Mongolia’s Reindeer Herders 🇲🇳🦌

Imagine travelling deep into the northern forests of Mongolia, where you can meet families who live alongside reindeer and have kept this unique way of life alive for generations. 🦌🌲

The Tsaatan, also known as the Dukha people, are one of Mongolia’s smallest ethnic communities. Only around 250–300 Tsaatan people are estimated to remain, living mainly in the remote taiga of northern Mongolia. Their lives have traditionally been closely connected to their reindeer, which provide transportation, milk, and an important part of their cultural identity.

The Reindeer Festival gives you a rare opportunity to experience this culture up close and see a side of Mongolia that very few travellers get to experience.

You’ll meet reindeer, spend time with local families, enjoy traditional music and games, and get a glimpse into everyday life in the remote taiga.

And getting there is part of the adventure. You’ll travel deep into some of northern Mongolia’s most remote landscapes, passing through forests, mountains, rivers, and vast stretches of wilderness.

What makes the experience truly special is the people you meet along the way. You can listen to their stories, see their connection with their reindeer, and share a few simple moments of everyday life in the taiga.

✨ With such a small community and such a unique way of life, meeting the Tsaatan is more than visiting a festival. It’s a chance to experience a living tradition that has survived in one of Mongolia’s wildest corners.

📩 If the Reindeer Festival is on your winter wish list, send us a message and we’ll help you plan the journey.

More Than a Place to Stay 🏡 💛

Pierre’s Mongolia journey was quite something to follow.

He started by hiking the full length of Lake Khövsgöl, from the northern tip all the way to Murun. Then he came back to Fairfield, picked up one of our TREK rental bikes, and spent six days cycling from Fairfield to Tariat and back, taking different routes along the way. 🚴‍♂️

Between all those adventures, Pierre also spent time with us here at Fairfield. He enjoyed our food, the atmosphere, our standards, and the value we try to offer to every guest.

We’re especially grateful that he took the time to share his honest thoughts about his experience with us. ☺️

🎥 Pierre kindly shared his thoughts about his time at Fairfield. ✨

Pierre, thank you for your kind words and for allowing us to share your story. It was a real pleasure meeting you, hearing your stories, and being a small part of your Mongolia adventure.

And of course, we hope there have been many more adventures since then! 😊🐎
If you’re travelling through Mongolia and looking for a place to rest, eat well, meet good people, and plan your next adventure, we’d love to welcome you to Fairfield.

🦌 A Journey Into the World of the Reindeer Herders 🇲🇳❄

Some journeys stay with you long after you return home.

Chase and three friends chose to spend around two weeks exploring northern Mongolia, including a special journey to meet the Tsaatan reindeer herders and experience a way of life unlike almost anywhere else. 🦌🏔️

The Tsaatan are one of Mongolia’s smallest and most unique nomadic communities. They have traditionally lived alongside reindeer in the remote taiga forests near the Russian border, relying on their animals for transportation, milk, and everyday life.

Reaching them isn't easy. The journey takes you deep into remote northern Mongolia, far from regular roads and the usual tourist routes. But that's exactly what makes the experience so meaningful. You aren't simply visiting a destination. You are meeting people whose relationship with nature and reindeer has been passed down through generations.

For Chase and her friends, it became a two week adventure filled with wild landscapes, remote travel, new friendships, and moments they won't easily forget.

We're incredibly grateful to Chase for trusting us with this journey and for allowing us to share a little of their story with our travellers. ❤️

If you're looking for something beyond the usual Mongolia experience and want to travel deeper into the wild, we'd love to create your own journey.

🦌 Come meet the people who call the taiga home.

📩 Tell us what you're dreaming of, and let's make it happen.

🐪 A Celebration You’ll Only Find in Mongolia 🇲🇳

If you’ve never seen thousands of Bactrian camels gathered in the middle of the Gobi Desert, this is something special to put on your list. 🐪🏜️

But why Bactrian camels? Because unlike the single hu**ed dromedary, these incredible camels have two humps, perfectly suited to the harsh conditions of Central Asia.

And here’s something you might not know: Mongolia is home to around 30% of the world’s Bactrian camel population, with the Gobi being their natural home. 🤎 For generations, these camels have been an important part of life in the Gobi. They provide transportation, wool, milk, meat, and income for many local families, and their ability to survive the desert’s extreme conditions is remarkable.

The Ten Thousand Camel Festival brings camel herders, families, and visitors together to celebrate this unique part of Mongolian life. You’ll see camel races, traditional games, music, performances, and plenty of moments to simply enjoy the atmosphere. 🐪🎉

But what makes it special isn't just what happens during the festival. It's standing there in the middle of the Gobi, surrounded by Bactrian camels, local families, and an endless desert landscape.

It's cold. It's remote. It takes some effort to get there.

And that's exactly why it feels so genuine.

✨ If you want to experience a side of Mongolia that you won't find anywhere else, come to the Gobi in winter.

🏔️ The Freedom of the Open Steppe

There’s a feeling you get when you’re cycling across Mongolia that’s difficult to explain until you’ve experienced it yourself.

You’re riding with your friends, the gravel is moving beneath your wheels, the wind is in your face, and there’s nothing around you for miles except the open steppe. 🌿

No rush. No traffic. No city noise. Just you, your bike, your riding companions, and this enormous landscape.

Some days the riding feels easy and smooth. Other days the gravel, hills, and distance remind you that you’re truly out in the wild. And when you finally stop, look around, and realize how far you’ve come, those are the moments that stay with you. ❤️

This is what we love about cycling in Mongolia. You don't just visit these landscapes. You experience them slowly, personally, and on your own two wheels.

If you've been dreaming about bringing your bike to Mongolia, or simply want to discover the country in a completely different way, we'd love to help you create your own journey.

🚴 Come ride with us. The steppe is waiting.

🚴 A Journey Measured in Miles & Memories 🇲🇳

Some trips are about the places you visit. Others are about the people you share them with.

Andy, Sue, and four of their friends chose to experience Mongolia together, on two wheels, and we absolutely loved having them on the road with us. ❤️

They cycled through wide open valleys, quiet countryside, mountain landscapes, rivers, and endless Mongolian horizons. There were long days in the saddle, rough roads, beautiful surprises, plenty of laughter, and those little moments that make a journey feel truly special. 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️🏔️

What we love most about cycling in Mongolia is that you don't simply pass through the landscape. You have time to slow down, look around, meet people, feel the wind, and really take in where you are.

Thank you, Andy, Sue, and the whole group, for trusting us with your adventure and for sharing these wonderful memories with us. 🙏❤️

📸 Here are a few moments from their journey.

Thinking about bringing your own friends to Mongolia? Get in touch with us. We'd love to help you create your own adventure, your own pace, and your own memories. 🇲🇳

🚴 Your friends. Your journey. Your Mongolia.
