It turns out they’re not just there to look pretty. 🐢

Long before we called this corner of Mauritius home, this sheltered bay was known as Baie aux Tortues, or Turtle Bay — a name that harks back to a time when giant tortoises were part of the island’s landscape.

Fast forward to today, and you’ll still find a few gentle giants around here… only ours prefer lounging poolside. 😎

Beyond serving as our resident coastguards, these turtle statues are a playful tribute to the history of the bay we’re lucky enough to call home, keeping a little piece of its past alive in the present.

So yes, they make pretty good photo companions. But now you know our poolside turtles have a story to tell, too. 🐢🌴
