One instructor told her to try. That was 2024. She is an Advanced diver now and working towards Rescue.

Between shifts at the Kandoo Kids Club, she dives to reset, then comes back up with shark stories the children get excited about.

This PADI Women's Dive Day, here is her story in her own words.

Q: What drew you to diving?
I chose diving because I love the ocean, enjoy learning new skills, and want to challenge myself while exploring the underwater world. In a way it started long before that. I grew up in the ocean. From a very small age I was always swimming, snorkelling, free diving. I cannot even remember learning how to swim, I feel like I always knew. I wanted to dive, but I did not have the courage. Then one of the instructors told me, you can do it, why don't you try? I did my first dive with him and that is when I realised, yes, I can do this. That gave me my confidence, and since then I have not stopped.

Q: What is your message to women who want to try diving?
I have many female colleagues who want to dive but feel afraid, and I understand them because I was the same. What I tell them is, try it once. If you do not try, you will never know. Try first, then decide. You can do it.

Q: How long have you been diving, and what level are you now?
I started in 2024, so it has been about two years. I am an Advanced diver now. Next, I want to do my Rescue Diver course. I am already working towards it.

Q: How supportive has the Kandooma Dive team been?
Kandooma Dive is one of the best. Whenever I call and ask if I can join a dive, they say yes, come along. They have been very supportive.

Here is a shark story for your little ones.

Sharks have been swimming these oceans for about 450 million years. Older than the dinosaurs. Older, in fact, than trees. There are more than 500 kinds in the world, and around 26 of them live right here in the Maldives.

You have probably already met one. In water barely deeper than your knees, close enough to watch from the beach, the young sharks are growing up. The lagoon is their nursery, warm and shallow and far too shallow for anything that might trouble them. So they stay, and they grow.

Then one day they are ready, and they go. Out to the reef, where the coral drops away and the current runs.

The ocean needs its sharks. Without them the reef falls out of balance, and a reef out of balance does not last. They keep the whole thing working, which is why they are worth protecting.
