This is how it starts. ❤️🎣
On a tiny island in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the ocean isn't something children only visit on holiday.
It's part of everyday life.
From playing with a handline at the beach as a little child, to catching your first fish from a local fishing boat and learning from your father as you grow older.
Fishing here is more than a hobby. It's knowledge, tradition and a connection to the ocean passed from one generation to the next.
While childhood is becoming increasingly digital in many parts of the world, moments like these still belong to everyday life on Keyodhoo.

A NEW JUPITER IS TAKING SHAPE… 🚤🔧

A little behind the scenes from our newest addition to the JSL fishing fleet.

Our Jupiter 5, a 23 ft boat, has spent at least 8 years working hard in charter service. After countless fishing days, it was time to think about its replacement.

And here it is:

Jupiter 12 – 27 ft Center Console, powered by twin Mercury 115 hp. 🔥

But why 27 ft?

Our fleet already includes Jupiter 8, a 38 ft fishing boat powered by 2 × 250 hp Yamaha, and Jupiter 10, our 32 ft boat powered by 2 × 175 hp Yamaha.

These larger boats are fantastic for groups and demanding fishing trips, but not every guest needs that much boat.

With the new 27 ft Jupiter 12 and 2 × 115 hp Mercury, we’re filling that gap – giving solo anglers, couples and small groups of up to around 3 anglers a proper fishing platform that’s more economical than taking one of the big boats.

Right now the Mercury technicians are installing the engines. Next comes the steering and hydraulics, complete electrical installation, GPS, fishfinder and all the other equipment needed before she is ready for fishing.

If everything goes according to plan, Jupiter 12 could touch the water for the first time tomorrow or the day after. 🌊

A day on the flats… with a fly rod in hand.
Our guest from Italy headed out for a guided fly fishing session on the flats of Vaavu Atoll.
Sight fishing, clear shallow water and different species throughout the day — including Bluefin Trevally and Triggerfish on fly.
This is a completely different side of fishing in the Maldives. No heavy tackle. No trolling. Just walking the flats, searching for fish and waiting for that one perfect opportunity.

Imagine this being your childhood. ❤️

Growing up on a tiny local island in the middle of the Indian Ocean.

Playing football with your friends under the palm trees. Running barefoot to the beach. Turquoise water just a few steps from home. Nurse sharks and rays are part of the world around you.

For visitors, Keyodhoo can look like paradise.

For these kids, it’s simply home. 🌴🇲🇻

Sometimes it’s the everyday moments that remind us just how special island life can be.

MISSION: BIG YELLOWFIN
Today the plan on Jupiter 9 was clear — head offshore and find the big tuna.
But first, we needed the right bait.
Fresh Bonitos were caught and kept for live bait. Then the search for the big Yellowfins began.
And the plan worked.
Three big Yellowfin Tuna landed!
A great result after a proper day of offshore fishing — and one very happy angler!

Would you feel safe standing here? 🦈👀

Just another evening at the harbour on Keyodhoo.

A local fisherman cleans his catch while more than 20 nurse sharks gather just centimetres away, hoping for the scraps. Two local kids watch the spectacle as if it’s the most normal thing in the world.

But this always starts a discussion…

Would you consider this dangerous?

Some people say wild sharks should never associate humans with food. Others point out that fish scraps have traditionally ended up in the harbour and the sharks have gathered around fishing activity for years.

What do you think?

When fly fishermen decide to pick up a popping rod... 🎣💥
Our guests from Argentina came to Keyodhoo mainly for fly fishing on the flats – but for one session, they decided to swap the fly rods for popping gear.
And the reefs didn't disappoint.
Several Giant Trevallies and a beautiful Bluefin Trevally made sure they got a proper taste of Maldives popping. 🔥
Different tackle.
Different technique.
Same addiction. 😄
That's one of the great things about fishing here – you don't have to choose just one style.

Our guests from Japan are enjoying some great fishing here in Keyodhoo.

This beautiful Giant Trevally put up a good fight, posed for a quick memory… and then went straight back where it belongs.

Listen to guide Adam in the background – sometimes the crew celebrates the release just as much as the catch. 😄

Every flat tells a different story.
No two days are ever the same.
Besides several impressive Giant Trevallies, the flats also rewarded our guests with a beautiful Bluefin Trevally and a stunning Yellowspotted Trevally on fly.
That's what makes saltwater fly fishing so addictive...
You never know what will appear in the next shallow flat.
