We have been incredibly lucky this season to welcome a female green turtle to our beach. Since May, she has returned to our beach to nest on five separate occasions, on the 8th, 18th, and 29th of last month, and again on the 9th and 20th of this month. This is an exciting reminder of the importance of our shoreline as a nesting habitat.
Each nest has been carefully marked and protected. The first nest is due to hatch in the first week of July, and we are eagerly looking forward to this special event.
Green turtles can lay up to eight clutches during a single nesting season, so we hope to see our visitor return a few more times in the coming weeks. During the most recent nesting, guests were also able to observe the process, making for a memorable and educational experience.
