Gateway Guest House

Gateway Guest House is a peaceful, eco-friendly, private overnight facility, close to Monkey Bay and Cape Mac Clear, nestled on a rocky hill overseeing the southern shores of Lake Malawi.

Enjoy authentic Malawian hospitality and awaken to the call of the African Fish Eagle for another glorious day and enjoy the warm heart of Africa. Activities available include boat trips, canoeing, snorkeling and visiting the Lake Malawi National Park ,which is a world heritage site only 20km from Gateway at Cape Mac Clear.

We are offering lodging as part of our hospitality courses facilitated at Gateway Transformation Campus which are a Christian training facility for the social upliftment of Malawians, adding to the economic infrastructure of tourism in Malawi. Income generated from this hospitality service will add to our training program for future development.

ROAD MAP: GPS coordinates – 14° 07.280S 34° 55.494E

Follow the M10 from Mangochi to Cape MacClear, and turn right at the Energen Gas station on your left to Cape MacClear. On your right big baobab tree curio market, turn right. Find our sign board on the left 2 km from the turn off on a gravel road, Gateway Transformation Campus and Gateway Guesthouse. There is an access road uphill, and safe parking at the cottages. On the premises are the private house of pastor Francis Nkhoma and Mary, and a dormitory house for students; there is a pre-school for toddlers 2-5 years old which are managed by Joyce. A conference hall is in in the process to be constructed.

Each Cottage has two bedrooms, a private shower and toilet and small dining area and patio overseeing Lake Malawi. 4 Rooms in total and can accommodate 12 persons. The service is not self catering but we offer traditional home cooked meals which can be ordered on arrival. The accommodation is ideal to host groups touring or working.

Getting around: We suggest that guests have their own transport as the nearest transport pick up is about 2km from the cottages on the main road M10 going to Monkey Bay which is 10km from Gateway. Local transport is private car taxi's, bicycle taxi or motor bike taxi. Local transport is available to Cape Maclear, Monkey Bay and Mangochi.

Pet(s) live on property - We have 3 local watch dogs called Mayi, Mapaze, Bulane

Amenity limitations - No hot water available, only cold water in showers but the host can provide hot water for your shower on request. Malawi is the warm heart of Africa and weather is normally very hot and no need for hot water.

Must climb stairs - The cottages is located up a hill off shore, walk way are gradually steep, no stairs.

Some spaces are shared - If you only book one of the cottages, the other cottage might be booked by other guests.

The cottages is about 300 meter next to each other.

Cancelation policy:

Flexible - Free cancellation within 48 hours minus the service fee.

No refunds within 24 hours of cancellation.
