🌿 What’s in a Name
For those who know me or follow my adventures, my full name is Roanna Sabeh-Azar — Canadian-born, of Middle Eastern descent, and, as I like to say, a Mayan soul.
My journey has always been driven by creativity and connection. My first venture, AZAR Trading, began in Mexico as an import/export company. That evolved into a boutique on Bellair Avenue, and later a first-of-its-kind concept store and café in Yorkville.
Then came Neo-Paws International, the world’s first orthopedic running shoe company for dogs and other animals. Shortly after, I was invited to host ENTRADA: Journeys Through Latin American Cuisine — a 26-part TV series that aired internationally and deepened my love for Latin culture, food, and people.
During one of my visits to Huatulco, while brainstorming the name for the resort, I asked my architect what “Azar” meant in Spanish. To my surprise, he said it translates to “luck.” Intrigued, I looked it up myself — and discovered that El Azar goes one step further, meaning “protected by God.”
That moment sealed it. The name was already written in my destiny.
And so, El Azar Huatulco was born — a modern, eco-luxury resort built on faith, gratitude, and a deep connection to nature.

☀️ An Invitation
Building in Mexico has been a leap of faith — my first ground-up project — but I’m all in. I’m creating a space where people can feel free, inspired, and at peace.
So pack your bags and join me in Huatulco, baby! 🏖️
Swim in the pool, stroll or run along the beach, explore the trails and neighboring bays. Play beach volleyball, tetherball, pickleball, badminton — or practice yoga, meditate, pray, and simply be. Cook, eat, drink, laugh, and listen to the ocean waves as they kiss the shore.
We look forward to welcoming you to El Azar Huatulco, and sharing the joy, beauty, and serenity of this magical place.
Because here, you are — and always will be — protected by God.
