Los Aripes is a 4-plex apt. Coord. All 4 apts.

building located between El Centenario and El Comitan. It is right on a beach road in front of the La Paz Bay on highway 1 , Km 15. Lat 24 7’8.43 N LON 110 25’27.23W. have the same size and basically, the same floor plan. While the 2 apts. downstairs enjoy the comfort of being at ground level, just steps away from the swimming pool, the ones upstairs offer incredible views of the La

Paz bay and its city lights during the evenings. The apts. Are equipped with air conditioning; freezer fridge; gas stove; blender; bread toaster; micro-wave oven; pots and pans and the basic utensils one would need for a comfortable stay. There is ample, secure and walled parking space in the back of the building which is also secured in the front by an electric gate. The property has a nice 12’X24’swimming pool and is also equipped with a wi-fi system. There are some restaurants, bars and Pizza restaurants, mostly frequented by the American/Canadian residents who visit the area during the season October-May each year. Some activities are organized by these immigrants which include Art in different ways: Photography; Painting; Music, etc. Getting to these places generally requires a vehicle, unless you wish to take a good 1 Mi. walk each way. Most guests use their
vehicles. The natural surrounding environment is quite inviting and most people enjoy relaxing walks along the beach and road, practicing photography, kayaking, bird watching, shell collecting etc. There is a beach, within walking distance (Punta Pelicanos) which is a real treat to those who enjoy swimming in the ocean. Getting to the “Malecon” and/or downtown from the apts will require your own transportation as public transportation is not as reliable as one would desire. It takes about 15 to 20 driving minutes to get to the malecon and downtown on a regular average day. HISTORY
Jesuit Father Miguel del Barco, 1706-1790 wrote extensively about the Californias of those times, almost a couple of centuries after the Cortez invasion of the Aztec empire. (1521)
His exploration and eventually settling –for 30 years- in the Baja peninsula gave him a rich insight and knowledge of the natives ways and culture inhabiting the area. Per his account, the natives divided the peninsulas –as known then- in 3 parts: The south, from Los Cabos (San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas) to the La Paz bay which was inhabited by the Pericu (Pericues, pl. in Spanish). The Monqui (Monquies) took the mid-peninsula all the way up to what is now known as Loreto and from Loreto on towards the north there were the Cochimi (Cochimies). These areas were very scarcely populated by these small tribes. There were other smaller tribes here and there, speaking their own dialects but they had many similar terms, referring to the same things, places and events which facilitated their ability to communicate and socialize. The Pericu nation was in fact made up of 3 different sub-groups who spoke the same basic language, with small variations. These were the Uchities who settled in what is now known as the city of La Paz, spreading towards the south west. Further west were the Coras (not to be confused with the Coras in Nayarit in mainland) and finally, the Aripes, along the shores of the bay and south of La Paz, officially named "Ensenada de Aripes", inside the "Bay of La Paz".These natives lived off shell fish, fish and small game and dear from the desert and the sierra's skirts. The bay was generous and fish, mollusks and clams were abundant. More than 2 centuries later and somewhat uncertain as to where exactly Los Aripes settlement is, many Baja Sur natives still refer to Los Aripes as the bay beaches SW of La Paz, where the Los Aripes Apt.s are now, hence the name of the 4-plex.
