I leave you some USEFUL RECOMMENDATIONS to be prepared while avoiding panic before the arrival of a hurricane.
For Quintana Roo, the hurricane season runs from June to November (and it has been considered by experts. In the face of climate change it extends until December)
1. DO NOT make panic purchases or overstock your pantry with perishable food, because if the electricity goes out they will spoil and you will only lose money. Buy canned food or food that does not require refrigeration and above all have water to drink.
2. Fill your car’s gas tank, if electricity goes out, your car will be indispensable to charge at least your cell phone and if there is a radio signal it will help you to stay informed.
3. Tie, store or fix everything that can become a projectile in behalf of you and your neighbors, in this way accidents are avoided that could put people and their assets at risk.
4. Keep important documents in a safe place and where you can have them at hand in case of emergency.
5. Have candles or emergency lamps at your fingertips, charge your portable batteries before the impact of the storm.
6. If you don't have anti-cyclonic curtains or wood to protect glass, put tape on the windows in the shape of an x or asterisk.
7. DO NOT listen to rumors. Stay informed through the official channels of corresponding authorities, DO NOT share Fake News.
8. If you are in a risk area, locate the anti-cyclonic shelter closest to your home and, if necessary, transfer to it.
9. As far as possible, keep your loved ones informed of where you are.
10. Have a first aid kit on hand.
11. If this is the first time you have to experience a hurricane, do not panic, follow the news on the official channels. If you are a tourist follow all the instructions given to you in your lodging center.
12. As there may be cuts or failures with electrical energy, have cash on hand. If there is no electricity you will not be able to relay on banks or ATMs.
13. Protect your pets and have enough food for them as well as a specific place so that they can relieve themselves.
14. DO NOT go outside until authorities and official channels have announced that it is safe to go outside.
