The origin story of the House of Story Medicine.
Today would have been Azukar's 50th birthday. His birth name was Rosendo Gallardo,, born in Acapulco, Mexico and named after his grandmother Rose. He was a Rose.
His family always sang *Forever Young* to him. It wasn't just a song they loved. It was who he was.
He never seemed to grow up.
He danced through life with the joy of a child. He sang without caring who was watching. He laughed easily. He loved deeply. He saw wonder where others saw ordinary life. His nickname became Àzukar - Spanish for Sugar. He was so sweet.
The world doesn't always know what to do with people like that.
He struggled to keep jobs because he couldn't fit into expectations. More than once he was told he was too much... too joyful... too free. He never found someone who could truly love him exactly as he was.
Until we found each other.
For two years and seven months I experienced a kind of love I didn't know was possible.
They were the happiest days of my life.
I never wanted him to become someone different. I loved the childlike spirit that made everyone smile. His joy became my joy.
Then, on his 46th birthday, everything changed.
For years I searched for answers that didn't seem to exist. I fought against losing him. I questioned everything. I tried to leave Puerto Vallarta. I even tried to sell the house that had somehow become part of our story.
Nothing made sense.
Until recently.
During an astral Human Design reading, I was offered a perspective that profoundly changed how I understood our journey. Whether others share those beliefs or not, it helped me see our story differently.
Instead of asking, "Why was he taken so soon?" I began asking, "What if his journey was always meant to be complete?"
What if he wasn't meant to grow old?
What if the reason everyone called him *Forever Young* was more meaningful than any of us realized?
And what if our love was never meant to last a lifetime...
..because it had already fulfilled its purpose?
Today I no longer see our story as one of tragedy.
I see it as one of extraordinary love.
Azukar taught me how to live with joy, how to dance without embarrassment, how to laugh more, and how to love without conditions.
His death changed the direction of my life, but it did not end our relationship.
It transformed it.
The journey that followed eventually led me to this place in Puerto Vallarta.
It led me to The House of Story Medicine.
For four years I resisted it. I questioned it. I tried to walk away from it.
Now I finally understand.
The House of Story Medicine was never simply a property.
It was the next chapter of our story.
Azukar was my earth angel.
Today I believe he continues as one of the guiding lights who inspires this work from beyond what I can see.
Every retreat, every circle, every story shared around our rooftop table carries a little of the joy he brought into my life.
His greatest gift was never that he stayed.
His greatest gift was that he showed me how to love so completely that even death could not end the story.
Happy 50th Birthday, my beautiful Forever Young.
You are still dancing.
And because of you, I finally am too.
If you've ever loved someone whose life changed yours forever, perhaps Día de Mu***os, (Day of the Dead) November 1st 2026 in Mexico, isn't about remembering the people we've lost. Perhaps it's about learning how to continue the conversation.
