To our beautiful guests and friends of Villa Azul Celeste, we want you to know our wonderful staff are safe and sound and the Villa is likewise. We appreciate the care and concern expressed by many.
Sunday’s events were intense but relatively short-lived, lasting several hours. Thankfully, today life in Puerto Vallarta is back to its’ rhythm and flair. The people that call it home, as well as the many people who visit, are back to their regular routines. The airport, schools, busses and business are open again and have resumed normal schedules. It’s worth noting that a significant amount of misinformation was circulated on social media, including AI-generated videos or false images. For example, Costco was not burned down, no aircraft were burned at the airport, and the cathedral was not set on fire.
Although there was property damage throughout the region to vehicles and commercial storefronts that were part of large national chains, individuals were not targeted and there were no reported physical injuries related to Sunday’s events. The guests who are currently staying at the Villa (and were there Sunday) sent us this message: “We felt as safe as one could at the Villa under the circumstances. We were very concerned for the staff, who were equally concerned for us. They are very relaxed today…They tell us what took place was material damage…”
The story that is now emerging is one that we already knew: Puerto Vallarta is a kind, loving, resilient, amazing community. As the dust settles, life is returning to normal and the true spirit of Puerto Vallarta and the people who live there is shining through- neighbors helping neighbors, groups making food and handing it out for free, people opening their homes to strangers. We are grateful that we get to experience and share this amazing place and these beautiful people with so many guests and friends at the Villa. If you would like to know how you can best support the people at this time, my only suggestion would be to come and share in the beauty of Puerto Vallarta with them.
