*THE CURSED POTHOLE ON THE ROAD TO SANTA ROSALÍA*
_By Benjamin Romero - Asphalt Chronicles_
They say that at *kilometer marker 157* on the road to Santa Rosalía—right before reaching Palo Verde, where there’s hardly any cell signal—something lives.
It’s not just a pothole. It is *THE* Pothole.
You don’t see it coming. You never see it coming. It looks like a harmless little puddle, a tiny black spot. But when you hit it...
*WHAM! CLANK! RIM SPLIT IN HALF!*
The Pothole’s tally so far:
- 47 blown tires
- 23 rims snapped like a tostada
- 8 flying lug nuts
- 1 VW Beetle that nearly flipped over—and the driver swore he saw the devil climb out of the hole
The tire shop owners in Santa Rosalía and Mulegé have practically built a shrine to it. They say, "Thanks to that cursed pothole, we’ve bought land and put our kids through college." Whenever people arrive pushing or towing their cars, the mechanics just ask: "It was the KM 157 pothole, right?" And the driver knows it means a new rim.
• Civil Protection works tirelessly, supporting everyone left stranded because of the cursed pothole.
• Truckers know it well and call it "The Suspension-Breaker." They pass by sideways, praying the Our Father and slowing down to 20 km/h. Tourists don't know any better and hit it at 100. That’s where they end up—stuck in the middle of the road with a tire looking like chewed gum, talking on the phone: "Honey, I hit the Santa Rosalía pothole!"
• They say the Pothole was born in 2025, when the government said, "We'll patch it up in a bit." And they never came back. Between the sun, the rain, and the neglect, it grew. It learned. Now, it’s hungry.
A young guy from Mulegé swears that one night, he saw it move. "I swear, buddy, the pothole got bigger when it saw me coming."
The SCT has already been out to check it three times. They take photos, they measure it, they say, "Yeah, we're going to report it." And the Pothole just laughs. Because it knows they aren't going to fill it in. It’s the real owner of the highway.
So, if you're coming from Santa Rosalía, slow down at *KM 157*. Say hello to the Pothole. And if you're carrying a spare tire, bring two. Because the Cursed Pothole is still there, waiting, with its mouth wide open.
*The End... Or to be continued when they patch it with that lousy asphalt that only lasts through two rainstorms.*
