EL CAPITAN DON GINÉS GÓMES DE VALDÉS, CABALLERO DE LA ORDEN DE SANTIAGO EN LA HACIENDA DE MELAQUE.
En 1714 se tuvo noticia de que una embarcación había fondeado en el puerto de Melaque (jurisdicción de Villa de Purificación); de ella saltó a tierra un hombre que dijo ser el capitán del navío y de inmediato pasó a la Hacienda Melaque del Capitan Don Ginés Gómes de Valdés a vender su cacao, como no pudo hacerlo regresó a su nave y luego partió.
Las autoridades locales recibieron la orden de detener la embarcación por intentar realizar comercio ilícito. Sin embargo, la nave llegó al otro extremo del Puerto de la Navidad donde el capitán volvió a saltar a tierra y se dirigió al rancho llamado Jaluco, en donde se le proporcionó una vaca a cambio de una parte de su carga. No se pudo detener a la nave aunque se logró aprehender a un indio que dijo provenía de Guayaquil y solo llevaban cacao en dicha embarcación.
Los Gómez Parada mexicanos son originarios de Murcia España, el Capitán Gines es hijo de Pedro Gómez de Valdez y de Ana Martínez Gil, estaba casado con doña María Ana Parada y Mendoza, ambos padres del obispo de Guadalajara Juan Gómez Parada, doctor erudito en teología, quien en 1740 hiciera visita pastoral al curato de la población de Autlán de la Grana Jalisco donde observó la infinidad de esclavos negros, mulatos e indígenas trabajando en el trapiche azucarero en la localidad de Ahuacapan el Alto, localizado en la Hacienda de su padre el capitán Gines Gómez de Valdez. En 1689 trabajaban en la hacienda del trapiche la cantidad de 32 esclavos negros, mulatos y mulatas así como 63 sirvientes que eran mulatos e indios libres. A finales del siglo XVII se dio un proceso de liberación de esclavos.
LOS PRIMEROS DUEÑOS DEL RANCHO JALUCO
El rancho Jaluco localizado entre Melaque y la Barra de Navidad era propiedad del mulato Antonio “Anton” Dominguez hijo de una esclava negra de las minas de Taxco y de Andrés Jácome de Mónaco conocido como “Maese Jácome Genovés” quizás por su procedencia de Mónaco, quien falleció el 18 de Junio de 1551. Tenía otro medio hermano llamado Andrés Jácome, quien era mudo y ambos recibieron partes iguales los bienes descritos en el testamento de su padre. Juan Fernandez El Viejo y su esposa Francisca de Saldaña otorgaron carta de censo sobre una huerta de cacao a favor de los hijos menores del “Maese Jácome” en el Valle de Caxitlan hoy municipio de Tecoman Colima. En 1577 Antón Domínguez murió primero y Andrés “El mudo” su medio hermano heredó sus bienes y se dedicó a la parranda y a la vida alegre.

CHAPTER I: This series of articles is related to the life, history and majesty of the population called Melacca - today Melaque - in the municipality of Cihuatlan in the State of Jalisco, Mexico.

EARTHQUAKE OF MAY 27, 1563 IN THE BARRA-MELAQUE BAY.
The Puerto de la Natividad was shaken by an earthquake on the night of May 27, 1563, devastating and collapsing most of the houses built, leaving “La Casa Real” very damaged, a supply and ammunition depot, where the Viceroy arranged the support of 150 indigenous people from the surrounding área, sent to the shipyard manager Captain Juan Pablos de Carreon to raise the buildings damaged by the earthquake (order received by Antonio de Turçios).
The buildings that had been built in Melacca to support the construction of the fleet of ships, which by instructions from the Spanish Crown were built there for the expedition to the Philippines, were destroyed by the strong earthquake and the accumulation of aftershocks that for one night and one day they shook the population. The first records of this great earthquake were recorded in old viceregal manuscripts, being the first earthquake recorded and cataloged as magnitude 8, on the Richter scale to this day.
The hands of the Franciscan chronicler Fray Diego de Muñoz describe it as a large earthquake which had considerable aftershocks for nine consecutive days. (IX General Archive of the Nation (Mercedes branch, volume 84, folios 129 verse–130).

On June 25, 1563, by orders of Viceroy Luis de Velasco, everything related to the earthquake damage in Puerto de la Natividad and its shipyard was ordered to be repaired. This document, preserved in Mexico City (Muro, 1975; Castillo-Aja and Ramírez-Herrera, 2017), provides information on the damage caused by the earthquake.
The earthquake in Melacca (Melaque) on Thursday, May 27, 1563 occurred in the subduction zone in front of the Puerto de la Natividad located in the Trans-Mexican volcanic belt. It was one of the first earthquakes in northwest Mexico documented in historical sources. The 1563 earthquake destroyed the Spanish shipyard located in the settlement of Melacca within the Puerto de la Natividad on the Jalisco Coast on the borders of New Spain and New Galicia, causing serious damage to several material structures along 100 km of the coast of the Pacific Ocean.

The 1995 Melaque earthquake was an earthquake that occurred at 9:35 AM on Monday, October 9, 1995, which reached a magnitude of 8 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located on the coast of Colima-Jalisco and caused the death of 49 people and thousands of victims, affecting 200 km of coastline. This earthquake occurred in the area where the Rivera Plate sinks beneath the North American Plate as a result of movements between the North American Plate, the Rivera Plate, the Cocos Plate, and the Jalisco Plate.

LOS CERROS PROTECTORES DE PUNTA MELAQUE.
El escribano ingles Francis Pretty, ayudante del corsario británico Thomas Cavendish “El Navegante” dice en sus memorias: “AQUÍ SURGIÓ”, refiriéndose a que en ese lugar, como lo comenta Pretty, “DESEMBARCARON” dos veces en el pequeño poblado del expuerto Melacca, quemando la primera vez el 4 de agosto de 1587 el antiguo astillero, dos barcos perleros y las pocas casas existentes en el lugar. Por el ataque, la quemazón de la comunidad y los barcos, los pobladores de Melacca corrieron despavoridos y asustados hacia la parte alta de los cerros cercanos especialmente hacia la punta de Melacca donde era muy difícil de alcanzarlos, donde se escondieron y se sentían más protegidos. La segunda vez llegaron de nuevo el 3 de septiembre de 1587 y se internaron hasta el pueblo de Acatlán en los cerros, cerca del hoy llamado pueblo de Cuastecomates, compuesto de 30 casas y una pequeña iglesia la cual destrozaron y quemaron. Abandonando el lugar todos sus habitantes hasta dejarlo deshabitado para nunca más volver.

THE TOWN OF SAN PATRICIO-MELAQUE JALISCO, MEXICO.
Located in the municipality of Cihuatlan (place of beautiful and brave women) in the state of Jalisco near the borders with the state of Colima, on the southern coast of the state also called Costalegre. It is a place with beautiful beaches such as the beaches of Melaque, Coastecomates, and in the middle of the bay is the community of Villa Obregón and at the southern end of the bay is Barra de Navidad. The bay formerly called Puerto de la Natividad where Puerto Melacca was located used to be a shipyard for the construction and repair of ships for various expeditions through the Pacific Ocean and for the extraction of marine pearls.
The Irish soldiers, former members of the San Patricio battalion, and their families who had defended Mexico against foreign intervention in 1847 arrived in San Patricio. They formed the Hacienda de San Patricio in honor of their patron saint, San Patricio. That ranch was separated from the Melaque hacienda.
The name Melaque comes from Malaysia (Singapore) when that region was taken over for many years by the Portuguese who arrived on the coasts of the current state of Jalisco long before the arrival of Columbus and the Spanish to these coasts and interacted commercially with the indigenous people in the so-called factories.
