Great Travel Tips & Links

I spent just little over a month in Huatulco, Mexico and don't regret my decision one bit! 🏖️😁 But I would be totally lying if I said my travel plans went totally according to plan 😂 I had to be flexible with flights and do a little research on the requirements to get home to Canada 🇨🇦 So, I figured to ease some stress and help you be better prepared for a trip to Mexico 🇲🇽 I would share my helpful links list ⬇️⬇️⬇️

📌Mexico Covid Questionnaire

*This needs to be completed prior to arrival and departure for each passenger. Save the barcode to your phone.

📌CanBorder- eDeclaration

*Complete this prior to departure into Canada for quicker check out at Customs in Canada. Scan Barcode at kiosk and continue with next prompted steps.

📌Arrive Can App

*Complete prior to departure into Canada; add all family members. Save barcode to show at Customs and app will be used for daily symptoms check in during the 14 day quarantine.

📌West Jet link for PCR testing questions for entry into Canada and locations for testing within Mexico

*PCR or LAMP testing is required as of January 7,2021 when flying in to Canada. Test results must be within 72 hours of boarding.

📌New Pilot project in Toronto for Covid 19 testing

* This is a voluntary test and does not remove the need for pre-departure PCR test or 14 day mandatory quarantine in Canada

📌WestJet Phone number when calling from Mexico 👉 001-855-269-2979

📌Aeromexico Phone number when calling from Mexico 👉 001-880-237-6639

I hope this list helps anyone planning to getaway ✈️or is a helpful go-to if you need any assistance while on vacation ☀️

So just remember; These days if you choose to travel you need to be prepared for and expect change at anytime.✈️ It's a risk you you must be willing to take! 💪

After my last post about sharing my experience of flying for the first time since the pandemic; I thought I'd follow up to address the #1 question I've received since arriving...What's the Covid situation like in Huatulco? 🤔

For many expats I've spoken to, the common consensus is that we feel SAFER here then we do back home. But wait? How is that possible when we are coming from what is considered to be developed countries? 🇨🇦🇺🇸

My opinion, we are missing the key factor that they have here; a common goal to work together for the greater good and if you plan on visiting you need to have the same mindset.
✅RESPECT Yourself
✅RESPECT Others
✅RESPECT your Surroundings

Masks are required in any public space; Indoors or Outdoors.😷 Exceptions are while sitting on the beach, swimming, while working out or eating in a restaurant. Do you see people walking around outdoors without a mask?; Yes; but they are generally around nobody and have a common courtesy to pull it back up when they see anyone approaching. What you won't see here is people intentionally defying public orders, organizing protests or acting in a selfish manor to fulfill their needs; whether that be "essential or non essential"

Stores, restaurants and businesses are all open with safety precautions in place. Having your temperature taken, disinfecting your shoes and sanitizing hands are all a part of the daily routine. Similar to the rule I have at home with my business; If you choose to visit their establishment, remember you are a guest. Don't be an As***le! And follow their rules. Just like any small business owner around the world, they are doing what is needed to keep their doors open and are not intentionally trying to make your day "harder".

The most refreshing thing I've personally noticed; is the lack of negative and fearful media announcements I've become so accustom to watching daily at home. Instead, I see stories of communities coming together to clean up a beach⛱️, groups working towards providing food to smaller communities🥑🍇🍏, promotion of local businesses and initiatives to improve the area. ❤️ Prior to arriving, I have to admit I'd been feeling very anxious for the last few months and truly believe this was playing a huge part of it.🥺 So a piece of advice even if you are not planning on coming to Huatulco this year is- TURN OFF THE NEWS. You'll be amazed at how quickly the weight seems to be lifted off your shoulders.🧘🏼‍♀️

So anyways, back to the original question..What's the Covid situation like here in Huatulco? The answer- CIVILIZED.☺️

If you decide to visit; Have an open mindset, be respectful, support the local tourism and business owners but most importantly embrace the idea that " Tan Lines are the Proof of an Amazing Vacation" 😷🌞🌊🌴

For many; Including me, I was a little uneasy over the idea of travelling again ✈️ The last year has brought about uncertainty, fear and so much conflicting information, that it was hard to determine what was the right decision at times. Daily in travel groups I see people seeking advice on what to do? Their questions are generally met with many rude responses supporting both sides of the argument; Stay Home or Go? 🤷🏼‍♀️

My opinion; it's a personal decision you need to make for yourself but at the same time to take all the precautions necessary to protect yourself and others around you. Here was my experience;

Originally, I was suppose to fly with WestJet from YYZ-HUX but after numerous flight cancellations and changes I found myself with Aeromexico and needing to have a layover in Mexico City. Flight wise, there were way more options and times available, so I picked the one with only 2.5hour layover. Knowing that our luggage was going to be transferred right through to Huatulco, we felt it was way more then enough time to catch the next flight.

Starting our journey; We found Toronto disorganized and slow. It took over an hour to check our bags with little to no social distancing in effect. We watched many people wearing their mask below their nose with little to no enforcement. Security was a breeze and with a quick temperature check we were on our way. Boarding the flight was equally disorganized as their seemed to be a lack of common sense or respect coming from other passengers. We wore our mask the entire flight and followed our own personal safety guidelines.

Arriving in Mexico City was night and day! People were spaced out, there were floor markers and what seemed like more safety measures in place. Passing through security we were required to walk through a disinfectant tray for our shoes, have our temperature taken, disinfect our hands, full body screen and provide the barcode for the covid questionnaire. (Download and save on your phone before you go, you'll also need this in Huatulco and it will save you time) The airport terminals were busy but a respect for fellow travellers was way more apparent. The winner for airports in my opinion was Mexico City 💯

Huatulco airport had many of the same safety precautions in place and since you complete customs in Mexico City; you just grab your bags and go! Leaving the airport we were stopped in our taxi as we entered into town by officials who ask for identification, where you are staying, how long and remind you of their mask policies. This just seems like one last layer of protection to protect the citizens and beautiful community they have here in Huatulco since quarantine is not required upon arrival. We still plan to social distance for a few days, but again that is just our own personal choice.

So, for those of you thinking of travelling or trying to make a decision; this was just my personal experience and hope it helps you decide what steps to take on your next journey.
