86 years ago today, Edmond and Deborah Szekely pitched a handful of tents in the Tecate foothills and dreamed up something the world had never seen, a place to slow down, move your body, and reconnect with what matters.
They also planted a farm. Chemical-free, sun-drenched, and bursting with vegetables long before "farm-to-table" was a phrase anyone used.
North America's original destination resort and spa was born from that simple, radical idea. And somehow, we've only gotten better with age.
Today we turn 86. Here's to everyone who's been part of the journey.

With the background of a licensed music therapist, the curiosity of a writer, the patience of a friend, the vision of a social entrepreneur, the resolve of an activist, and the voice of a singer - Kyshona is unrelenting in her pursuit for the healing power of song. Rancho La Puerta Folk Festival co-host and producer, Amber Rubarth, is an acclaimed singer-songwriter and actor whose poetic, emotionally rich songs have been praised by Acoustic Guitar as "knocking down walls with songs so strong they sound like classics." She has toured internationally from South Africa to Japan, across Europe and North America, with appearances at Carnegie Hall and Glastonbury Festival, and has opened for legends including Emmylou Harris, Richie Havens, and Ralph Stanley. Rubarth also starred in the award-winning film American Folk, hailed by The Hollywood Reporter as "superb" and by Rolling Stone as "enchanting," while her eighth album Cover Crop reflects a deeply personal meditation on nature, sustainability, and human connection.

Kenneth Pattengale, best known as one half of The Milk Carton Kids, returns to the stage solo for the first time in sixteen years. A distinctive guitarist, singer, and producer, he has spent the past decade and a half refining a musical language defined by precision, restraint, and emotional clarity. This rare solo appearance isn't a step away from anything so much as a step into new creative ground, where his songwriting and guitar work can unfold with uncommon freedom. Intimate and quietly daring, it offers a vivid glimpse of an artist charting a new path.
