Moonriver Lodge is a family owned farmstay nestled in a valley of the lush mountains of Sigar Highlands. Here one can lie in a hammock, looking out into the garden at the green expanse that soothes the eyes and calms the soul. This is a space where children can roam freely along the food garden paths, run through the food tunnel and play with our 2 mountain rabbits and chickens . This is a space w

here nature lovers can watch hummingbirds and butterflies drinking nectar from the flowers and listen out for the distant call of the monkeys or the calls of the occasional hornbill or eagle. Here at Moonriver Lodge, we seek to provide not just a relaxing stay but also the opportunity to learn about nature, growing food or to participate in day-to-day vegetable farming activities. Join a trek to see the second largest flower in the world – the magnificent Rafflesia Kerrii or for the more adventurous, join a mossy forest trek experience. Harvest fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs from our kitchen garden to prepare a healthy, organic meal. Whatever you do here at Moonriver Lodge, you are bound to leave our gates rejuvenated but with a heavy heart to part with a place you wish was your second home. Because that’s what we try to provide – a basic yet comfortable, beautiful home. Come stay with us for a taste of country living in a highland hide-away, a “home away from home”.

Thank you for the amazing photos from Dato’ Dr Amar- Singh HSS, Chiu and Chew during their short visit to explore our bird trails sigarhighlands.

You can really learn so much in a short time when you are in the presence of expert birders and photographers! Their passion and immense dedication rubbed off so much in us that we started on short bird watching tours each weekend!

Another treat for us when we encountered THREE Rafflesia Kerrii flowers in a row! This rare occurrence is also a display of how well the precious buds are conserved and looked after by the indigenous people Temiars of Kelantan. The gazetted Rafflesia Conservation area, a humongous effort spearheaded by University Malaysia Kelantan Universiti Malaysia Kelantan also contributed to its recognition internationally as a leading centre of excellence in

What an amazing find today- a 6 petaled bloom in the forests of Lojing Highlands, only 7 mins from our farmstay. While the Rafflesia kerrii typically has 5 perigone lobes (often referred to as petals), 6-petaled blooms do occasionally occur. This is a rare, naturally occurring anomaly and we are so lucky to witness it!
The Rafflesia flower survives as a parasite on Tetrastigma vines, taking roughly 9 months to grow before blooming for just 5 to 7 days.
