Following the success of The Chris Ong Collection, Chris returns with a new book that continues his journey of preserving and sharing Penang’s rich heritage.

More than a collection of beautiful and historic porcelains, this upcoming publication explores the deeper connections between culture, memory, identity, and the stories that shape who we are. Launching this July, the book invites readers to look beyond heritage as something we simply admire, and instead see it as something we actively preserve, celebrate, and pass on.

Here's an exclusive first look.

Stay tuned for more details on the official launch.

While walking along Muntri Street with my kids, they couldn't stop looking at the beautiful heritage houses that have stood here for generations.

They were amazed by the intricate carvings, colorful tiles, wooden shutters, and unique architectural details that are still so well preserved today. As they admired the buildings, one of them asked me:

“Daddy, when we grow up, will these buildings still be here?”

It was a simple question, but it made me think.

The answer depends on us.

Heritage is not only about preserving old buildings. It is about preserving stories, traditions, memories, and the identity of a place. These beautiful houses have survived wars, changing times, and generations of families. Whether they continue to stand for our children and grandchildren depends on how much we value them today.

Every visit, every story shared, and every lesson passed on helps keep our heritage alive.

Heritage is not ours to keep.
It is ours to pass on.

A walk through Muntri Mews feels like stepping back into old Penang. Once a real communal parking space for horse carriages, this historic mews has been beautifully transformed into a charming boutique hotel while still preserving its original soul.

Just next door is Building 81, a heritage home dating back to the 1890s that has survived two World Wars and continues to stand proudly today. Now restored as part of the boutique hotel experience, it offers a glimpse into Penang’s rich Peranakan and colonial past. Beyond accommodation, it has become a special venue for birthdays, family gatherings, celebrations, and memorable Tok Panjang (long table) dining experiences where people come together to share food, stories, and laughter under one historic roof. A place where heritage is not only preserved, but lived and celebrated.

An unforgettable dining experience at Kebaya Dining Room
A beautiful journey through modern Peranakan cuisine, where every dish carries the flavours of heritage with a creative contemporary touch. From the elegant ambience to the carefully crafted presentation, every moment felt warm, intimate, and truly special.

What made the night even more meaningful was seeing my kids enjoying every bite and experiencing the richness of our local culture through food. Good food creates memories, and this was definitely one of those dinners we will remember for a long time.....

A perfect place for family bonding, celebrations, and introducing the next generation to the beauty of Nyonya heritage cuisine.

Jawi Peranakan Mansion - one of the very few heritage hotels in George Town where you can truly experience the beauty of Anglo-Indian architecture.

From the elegant colonial influences to the rich Jawi Peranakan heritage woven into every corner, this place feels like stepping into a different era. The intricate details, vintage charm, grand courtyards, and timeless atmosphere make it more than just a hotel stay.....it’s a journey through Penang’s multicultural history.

What makes it even more meaningful is being able to experience this together with my kids. Watching them explore the heritage spaces, ask questions, and slowly understand the stories behind the architecture reminds me that heritage is not only about preserving old buildings, it’s about passing memories, culture, and appreciation to the next generation.

Sometimes the best family memories are made in quiet little corners of the world

Tucked away in the heart of heritage streets, Muntri Grove feels like a hidden oasis - peaceful, charming, and full of stories waiting to be discovered.

This visit was extra special because I got to share a little piece of our heritage with my kids. From introducing them to the traditional tempayan to watching them laugh and play inside the beautiful cage at Grove, every moment felt simple yet meaningful.

Of course, no family day is complete without sweet treats 🍦☕
The kids absolutely enjoyed the complimentary ice cream and afternoon tea served by the hotel!

Years may pass, but the memories we create with our children in places filled with history and warmth will always stay with us ❤️

Some places are more than just beautiful buildings.

They are stories waiting to be passed on.
Today, I brought my kids to Seven Terraces - Penang Not just to admire its beauty, but to teach them about our heritage, our culture, and the memories that shaped us.

One special thing I shared with them was the meaning of “Kam Cheng” - the traditional Peranakan porcelain chamber pot that symbolises prosperity, family values, and everyday life from generations ago. What may seem like a simple antique today once carried deep meaning in a Peranakan home.

Watching my children listen with curiosity reminded me that heritage is not only preserved in museums or architecture…
It lives through conversations, stories, and moments like these.

Years may pass.
The kids will grow up.
The world will continue to change.
But the memories we create together, walking through these timeless halls, learning where we come from, and appreciating the beauty of our culture....will always stay with us.
Because heritage is not just about remembering the past.
It’s about making sure the next generation never forgets it.
