《The Harbor at Dusk》

At sunset, the sky and sea speak in whispers.

A seam of molten gold spills from the heart of the clouds, setting half the heavens aflame. Dusk drifts by like ink unfurling across a scroll, clouds slow and deliberate. Through their gaps, a few threads of clear blue slip in — the last lucidity of day.

The ocean catches the whole of the sunset. Light shatters into a million golden scales, trembling with the breeze, scattered across the harbor in a restless, glittering veil. Fishing boats rest on the still water like sleeping cranes. Others glide forward, carving thin silver trails on the mirror of the sea.

Distant hills soften their gaze. Islands blur into faint brushstrokes between sky and water. On shore, human lights awaken one by one, small and quiet, answering the first stars.

Here, the wind is gentle. Time moves slow. The day’s clamor sinks beneath the waves. All that remains is a golden tide, flowing soundlessly between cloud and sea.

This is the last, most tender poem the sunset writes for the world.
