As part of Art Merdeka: Echo 69, we are pleased to introduce .li_art , one of the featured artists in this exhibition celebrating Malaysia’s 69th year of independence.

Lucille Li (b. 1999, Selangor, Malaysia) graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from The One Academy in 2020 and a Bachelor of Education (Hons) from SEGi University in 2024. Inspired by idioms, colloquial phrases, and everyday conversations, her practice explores how language shapes perception through visual narratives. She transforms fleeting moments, personal encounters, and ordinary experiences into paintings that celebrate the humour, subtlety, and poetry of daily life. Her experience working with children has further shaped a practice that embraces playfulness, experimentation, and intuitive creativity while remaining rooted in familiar everyday experiences.

Each artist brings their own perspective, experience, and artistic voice to Echo 69, creating a diverse reflection of contemporary art and the many stories that continue to shape our cultural landscape.

As part of Art Merdeka: Echo 69, we are pleased to introduce .yao0120 , one of the featured artists in this exhibition celebrating Malaysia’s 69th year of independence.

Gene Yao (b. 1998, Johor, Malaysia) graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from The One Academy in 2021. His artistic practice explores time, memory, and emotional traces, reflecting on the connections shaped by lived experiences. Inspired by everyday life, local culture, literary imagery, and youth subcultures, he transforms personal memories into symbolic visual narratives. Through layered textures, weathered surfaces, repeated brushstrokes, and symbolic imagery, his works express companionship, longing, farewell, and love. Gene sees art as a process of preserving memories and understanding life, inviting viewers to reconnect with overlooked emotions and shared human experiences.

Each artist brings their own perspective, experience, and artistic voice to Echo 69, creating a diverse reflection of contemporary art and the many stories that continue to shape our cultural landscape.

As part of Art Merdeka: Echo 69, we are pleased to introduce , one of the featured artists in this exhibition celebrating Malaysia’s 69th year of independence.

Clarissa Soo Ee Wen (b. 2001, Penang, Malaysia) graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from The One Academy in 2022. Raised in a family that valued traditional handcrafts, she developed an early appreciation for sewing, painting, and handmade crafts, which continue to influence her artistic practice. Inspired by the romance and personal histories of older generations, her works celebrate love, devotion, and human connection. Through mixed media, intricate line work, textured surfaces, beading, and recurring imagery of couples, she creates nostalgic works that preserve memories and honour traditional craftsmanship.

Each artist brings their own perspective, experience, and artistic voice to Echo 69, creating a diverse reflection of contemporary art and the many stories that continue to shape our cultural landscape.

✨ Art Merdeka: Echo 69 🎨

This August, as Malaysia celebrates its 69th year of independence, we were delighted to welcome the students of Sri Desa International Secondary School to V’Art Space for a sharing session.

Coinciding with our current exhibition, Art Merdeka: Echo 69, the visit became a meaningful opportunity to talk about art, creativity, and the many voices that shape our culture and identity.

Just like an echo, ideas and influences continue to travel from one generation to another. Through art, stories, and shared experiences, we believe these voices can continue to grow, evolve, and inspire new perspectives.

It was wonderful to see the students engage with the artworks, ask questions, and discover a different side of the art world.

As we celebrate Malaysia’s journey, we are reminded that the future is also shaped by the voices of the next generation.

May every voice be heard, and every voice leave an echo.
The echo continues. The echo never ends. 🇲🇾✨
