Che Beach House is nestled in a pristine local village called Rhu Renggeh, about 10 minutes away by car from Kuala Terengganu. Che Beach House is a short walk away to a fishermen's port where you can get fresh catch every morning for an evening barbecue. Che Beach House is around 15 minutes by boat across the sea to Pulau Kapas (Cotton Island), arguably one of the most beautiful beaches in Asia. The beach house is located within a very traditional and non-commercial setting, perfect for those who treasure a quiet beach getaway and understand the local culture.
Che Beach House is not just an ordinary beach getaway, but is also a community project that seeks to make a positive impact on the environment and the local community that it belongs to. Che Beach House strongly believes in local empowerment, a pollution-free planet, and a safe space where people from different cultures get to know one another and work together.
As such, Che Beach House considers itself an “Inclusive Business”, employing local people and local families as part of its professional operations team. In the pursuit of a clean and pollution-free environment, Che Beach House started the “Thrash Coins” campaign, where any guest or visitor, who can produce 2 full bags of thrash from the beach, can redeem them for a scrumptious local complimentary breakfast served traditionally at the Wakaf (a traditional structure near the beach meant for relaxation). 10 full bags of thrash can be redeemed for a seafood barbecue night for one person. We at Che Beach House, hope to expand this idea to include vendors in the vicinity and even the state capital eventually, so that thrash can also be redeemed at their shops for goods and services.
In order to empower the local community and create a safe space for people from different cultures to come together and understand the local culture, Che Beach House started the “intercultural dinner” project, where for a reasonable fee, any guest or visitor, can have a local experience having dinner in a local home with a local family savouring locally prepared traditional food, over a conversation about culture, history and tradition of Terengganu.
We hope that we will be able to spur a positive movement of economic growth, sustainable practices and intercultural understanding, that can be replicated in all parts of the country in time to come. We hope that you can join us in this exciting journey. Come stay with us!
