💙 BLUE-HEADED PITTA | The Jewel of the Forest 🌿🐦

One of Borneo’s most beautiful forest birds — the Blue-headed Pitta (Hydrornis baudii). ✨
With its striking blue head, rich orange-brown body and vibrant markings, this shy bird can feel like a little piece of living artwork hidden in the rainforest.

🌳 Did you know? • 🐦 Endemic to Borneo — it is naturally found only on the island of Borneo. • 💙 The bright blue head is one of its most distinctive features. • 🌿 It prefers lowland rainforest, where it spends much of its time close to the forest floor. • 🪱 Pittas are mainly ground-foraging birds, searching among leaf litter for insects, worms and other small invertebrates. • 👀 Despite its spectacular colours, it can be surprisingly difficult to spot because it stays low and moves quietly through dense vegetation.

Here in the rainforest, every sighting feels special. Sometimes you don't need to chase wildlife — just slow down, stay quiet and let the forest reveal its secrets. 🌿💚

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We’re delighted to know you enjoyed the lodge, our bird hides and the wildlife encounters during your stay.

We also truly appreciate your understanding when plans had to be adjusted due to an elephant nearby — sometimes, the wild has plans of its own! 🐘🌿

Thank you for your kind words about our team, and we hope to welcome you back again someday!

🖤 Storm’s Stork — A Rare Jewel of Borneo 🐦🌿

One of Borneo’s most elusive and endangered birds, the Storm’s Stork (Ciconia stormi) is a true treasure of the rainforest.
With its striking black-and-white plumage, bright red face and long legs, this beautiful stork is usually found around lowland rivers, wetlands and forested waterways. Sadly, habitat loss and degradation have made sightings increasingly rare.
Every encounter with this magnificent bird is a reminder of how precious Borneo’s remaining forests and wetlands are. 🌳💚

A small act today can help shape a greener tomorrow. 🌱🌿

Ross and Wendy Dowling, our Conservation Fellows from Sukau Rainforest Lodge, joined fellow guests at Utan Rainforest Lodge for a meaningful tree-planting activity, together with Albert Teo, our Founder & Executive Chairman.

Together, they contributed to ongoing conservation efforts by planting trees that help support habitat restoration, biodiversity, and the future of Borneo’s rainforest. 💚

Every tree planted is a small step, but together, those steps can make a lasting difference.
