There is a certain magic in waking to the forest, as birdsong fills the morning air with its distinctive call echoing through the canopy. At Datai Bay, more than 60 species make their home within the surrounding rainforest, part of the rich tapestry of over 260 species found across Langkawi.

At our rainforest resort, birdwatching becomes an unhurried discovery, where you may encounter the Oriental-Pied Hornbill, Orange-bellied Flowerpecker, Crimson Sunbird, and other forest-loving species.

For those who wish to delve deeper into this avian world, each guest room features a beautifully illustrated Nature Guidebook by one of Malaysia’s most acclaimed wildlife illustrators, Choo Beng Teong. Described as love letters to the birds closest to his heart, the book reflects a deep connection between art, science, and conservation.

Swipe to discover some of the commonly spotted species around The Datai Langkawi. Which bird would you love to see here?

Our pools are places you find yourself returning to throughout the day. Set within the rainforest, they look out to the natural surroundings, with the water reflecting the trees above.

There is a certain ease to being here. The soundtrack of the rainforest – rustling of leaves, birds calling from the treetops, and the occasional hum of cicadas – makes you feel instantly at home.

Here, time seems to slow, effortlessly.

Experience a rare culinary encounter from 3 to 4 April 2026, as we welcome Chef Mathew Leong for an exclusive edition of The Chef Series, set against the lush backdrop of our rainforest.

His achievement marks Asia’s highest placement since 2015 and Singapore’s since 1989.

Wake up to the call of a hornbill echoing through the rainforest canopy as morning light filters into your room. Slow mornings look like this at The Datai Langkawi – sunlight through the shutters, fresh linens, and the sound of the rainforest just outside the window.

Here, there’s no rush to start the day. Take a moment to linger, breathe in the calm of the surrounding forest, and ease into the rhythm of the island.

Would you begin with coffee in bed or step out to explore the rainforest and beach beyond?

At the newly opened Teppanyaki Pavilion, every seat comes with a front‑row view of the craft behind the cuisine. Fresh ingredients are prepared right before your eyes, with each slice, sear, and sizzle revealing the textures and flavours of the dish, enhanced by the chef’s signature culinary flair.

The pavilion itself is a testament to thoughtful design, made from bamboo sourced sustainably, including harvests by Orang Asli communities in Perak – a reflection of our connection to the natural world.

Set against a mild ocean breeze, golden sunset hues, and the calm of our rainforest setting, dining here is as much about the journey to the plate as the flavours themselves.

A visit to the Teppanyaki Pavilion is a moment to watch food come to life.

As a gentle light is kindled this Hari Raya, may it carry with it a sense of warmth, faith, and tradition – guiding the way forward, and home.

This season invites us to reconnect with our loved ones, appreciate the simple moments that bring us together, and move forward with renewed gratitude. Just like the soft glow of the light guides the way, may this festive period remind us that the most meaningful journeys lead us back to what truly matters.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

In the heart of a 10‑million‑year‑old rainforest, life never stands still. Native wildlife – from hornbills to dusky langurs – rely on the forest’s layers for food, shelter, and survival. Here, the rainforest sets the rhythm of life – and The Datai Langkawi was designed to simply sit within it, with every development carefully considered to coexist in harmony with an ecosystem that has existed long before us.

Every layer of the forest plays a role in keeping this ecosystem balanced. Protection is essential – from guided nature walks to mindful environmental practices that help preserve its biodiversity.

One of the best ways to experience the rainforest in motion? The canopy walk. It brings you eye‑level with birds and treetop life, and you’ll see how vibrant and active everything is, far above the forest floor.
