A Key worth celebrating, and a journey worth remembering.

We’re honoured to receive our first One Michelin Key this year.

This recognition is especially meaningful as it reflects the people behind The Datai Langkawi – the ones who have been here from the early years, those who have joined us along the way, and everyone who continues to put care into what they do each day.

Three decades and counting, we’re grateful to still be welcoming guests into this little corner of Langkawi, surrounded by our rainforest and the Andaman Sea.

At the resort’s highest point, the Lobby Lounge brings together the sights and sounds of the rainforest and the ever-changing life around it.

Take a front-row seat overlooking the Andaman Sea, with Koh Tarutao on the horizon. Feel the breeze through the trees and watch the rainforest come to life.
Beside the lounge, fuchsia coloured lilies float across the pond, tiny frogs hide among the leaves, and every so often, an Oriental Pied Hornbill makes an appearance.

Stay awhile. Sometimes, it’s the little things that leave a lasting memory.

A look back at Shilpa Ghatalia’s residency for Serenity – The Datai Well-being Series, where she invited guests to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and discover a deeper sense of well-being.

Her Integrative Yoga brings together the wisdom of different traditions and well-being practices, creating an approach that meets each guest where they are, inspiring many to continue their practice with her long after the residency came to an end.

As part of Serenity – The Datai Well-being Series, Shilpa Ghatalia brought together movement, breathwork and restorative practices designed to support both body and mind.

Shilpa created a welcoming space for guests of all experience levels, with one-to-one sessions tailored to post-travel recovery, injury support and emotional balance, alongside group practices including morning breathwork, Integrative Hatha, Yoga Nidra and Qi Gong Flow.

With her warm and grounded approach, Shilpa encouraged guests to find greater ease both on and off the mat, leaving them feeling deeply recharged and inspired to keep up their practice long after their departure from the island.

Some of the rainforest’s smallest residents are also among its most colourful. Along the Butterfly Walk, flowering plants provide butterflies with a place to feed, rest and complete their life cycle, offering a closer look at a world that can easily go unnoticed among the rainforest greenery.

More than 530 butterfly species have been recorded across Langkawi, so no two walks are quite the same. You might spot one resting long enough to admire the patterns on its wings, or catch a flash of colour as another disappears among the leaves.

Our Naturalists can help identify the different species you encounter, explain the stages of their life cycle, and introduce you to the plants that support them – revealing some of the smaller details that make Langkawi’s rainforest so fascinating.

Some days are best spent at sea.

Keep watch for dolphins along the way aboard the Amanea yacht, stop for a swim in clear waters, and spend the afternoon exploring the waters around Langkawi.

There is plenty to discover out on the Andaman Sea, from the marine life beneath the surface to the changing coastline. Between dips, settle back on deck, enjoy a casual picnic lunch and take in the views, cruising back to shore as the sun sets.

A day at The Datai Langkawi starts with the sounds of the rainforest outside your villa, birds calling from the canopy as the morning comes to life.

Breakfast at The Dining Room brings freshly prepared local favourites to the table. As the day unfolds, explore a little more along the rainforest paths, or simply find a comfortable spot by the pool or on the beach to pause and unwind.

With the sun setting over Datai Bay, pre-dinner ch*****ne by the beach sets the scene, before the teppanyaki chef takes over the grill with a fiery show.

It is the kind of day that makes it easy to settle into – time in nature, time to relax, and memorable meals, all with the feeling of being well looked after from morning until night.
