Batu Batu is an all-villa, boutique resort set amongst coconut groves on the tropical, uninhabited island of Pulau Tengah in the South China Sea. The resort is built in the Malay vernacular style to blend as unobtrusively as possible with the natural beauty of the island and consists of 20 1-bedroom and 2 2-bedroom villas. Besides the island's eight sandy beaches, guests will also enjoy the open-sided pavilion bar and restaurant overlooking Sunset and Batu Batu Beach, fresh water swimming pool, hill-top spa, tiki bar at Long Beach and our 5-Star PADI dive centre. If you are interested in the island's marine environment and our conservation efforts, spend some time with the scientists at Tengah Island Conservation based at the Tunku Abdul Jalil Conservation Centre and Turtle Hatchery. Batu Batu is committed to the preservation, protection and proliferation of the flora and fauna in and around Pulau Tengah and beyond.

Clear water, a drive up the coast from Johor Bahru or Singapore and then 20 minutes by boat from Mersing 🐠

This is our water on an ordinary day, no filters used.

A study published in June in the ECNU Review of Education followed kindergarten children in Norway on regular visits to the shore near their schools. They felt the seawater and looked at what the tide had left behind, and their teachers talked it through with them. Over the weeks the researchers saw the children start to care about the sea and what lives in it.

We see something similar when children come back from their first snorkel here, or after watching a turtle release with the TIC team. You don't have to go far to build that love.

World Habitat Day falls on the first Monday of October. 🌿

We cannot talk about World Habitat Day without mentioning the work of our friends over at TIC | Tengah Island Conservation

What started in 2015 as a small conservation unit right here at Batu Batu grew, by 2019, into an independent NGO working across Johor's coastlines and communities to protect the region's biodiversity.

A decade on, that work is about more than what guests get to see. It's about the turtles that keep nesting, the reef that keeps recovering, the dugongs that keep returning, because someone has chosen to look after this place properly. Swipe through to see what ten years of that looks like.

Have you seen this?

This is our sandbar in the north of the island that only appears during part of the year, growing to its largest in October before the winds change and it begins to shrink again.

As it's around the corner beyond the rocks, it can be hard to miss if you don't know it's there. It's lovely in the mornings, and even more stunning in the evenings with the sun going down in just the right direction.

Here's a little snapshot of what happened at our September edition of the Wildings Adventure Camp, and the photos really do say it all. The curiosity, the wonder, and that look of accomplishment when a child builds something with their own hands, or spots something in nature they've never seen before... they're priceless!

Children who spend time learning in nature develop a deeper curiosity about the world around them, and a natural instinct to look after it. We see this at every single camp.
