This is why we say “Open your windows! Look outside!”
Don’t be afraid of opening your windows in the jungle! Look around & wait!
This pair of Great Hornbills ‘crashed’ into the palms. I heard them first then slowly opened the window of the master bedroom at Main House!
Always always so amazing to see these incredible birds at such close quarter’s!
🌿
They are a birdwatching treat!
🌿
Another we’re close by in the fig tree. But, we’re hidden by the vegetation to get a good view of them. Both very loving pairs💚
🌿
The fig is in fruit but all still unripe. They came in to do a tasting, checking if the fruit are ready. They are going to be around a lot for the next couple of weeks! Great news for our guests over this period!

We support the local small fishermen in our area. Single line caught fish are a more sustainable way of fishing. Right now these small boat fishermen are starting to feel the impact of overfishing in local waters, with less fish caught nearer to shore.
With the use of the ‘pukat harimau’, big net trawlers, that bring up everything, over fishing is something that the fishing industry around Pangkor will have to weight up in their near future. The use of crazy lit up ‘light’ boats that attract all sea life to them at night, like moths to a lantern, the nets grab up huge amounts of all sea life species. At night, from high points around the island, it’s shocking to see the sea views full of bright green light. The night flights from KL also give you an idea of the crazy use of artificial light in the Straits of Melaka. It’s not sustainable & the fishing industry around Malaysia as a whole, should be very cautious going forward.

Our rescued orchid has produced such an amazingly long flowering stem. Stunning!
Mohan saved this orchid off a storm felled tree a few years ago, & attached it onto one of our old rubber trees. It has thrived!

The Studio, Rebecca’s working studio when the family was based at Tiger Rock full time.
🌿
A wooden building with reclaimed doors & windows, painted floors & a zinc roof, the studio has settled completely into its place right on the edge of the permanent forest reserve that our land backs up against.
🌿
The long doors open onto a lawn & from the bed you can look out into the jungle valley & beyond to spot the macaques, the great hornbills, the odd giant vulture that has gone off its migration course.
🌿
You awake to birdsong here.
It’s definitely a place to rest or be inspired to draw, paint or write.
🌿
The Studio is an uphill walk from the main Poolhouse, where all the meals are served. You can follow the road & then the steps, or walk up through the Library Pavilion & through the Main House living room.
🌿
The studio has a king size bed & a single bed.It is perfect for a young family, a couple with one child, or a couple wanting more privacy.

The macaques are destructive rascals. Their idea of fun is often all about pulling the flowers off the palms, the durian trees, twisting off the newly formed cempedak fruit, & such like.
🌴
In this case, we retrieved the palm flowers off the pool house pathway & put them in a vase where they are a thing of beauty!
