Penang Green Acres Green Acres is a 16-acre orchard in Balik Pulau, Penang, Malaysia. A chemical-free farm, it is home t Durians are in season between June to August.

Green Acres is home to 450 matured durian trees with over 35 different durian cultivars to taste from. Older trees, between 80-100 years old, bear fruits which are exquisite in taste, like aged wine. At other times in the year, the farm is open for private orchard tours where the owners share their knowledge and experience in fruit farming, organic composting, building sustainable homes and the he

ritage of Balik Pulau orchards. Green Acres offer farm stays - in lodges that are spacious and airy, with full length windows and open balconies overlooking breathtaking views of the hills beyond. A fresh spring water dipping pool complete with darting fish inside is located in one corner of the deck for guests staying at the main lodge.

We are saddened by the passing of an icon! Carlo Petrini shook our hands after our 15 minute presentation as guest speaker and sharing a taste of Penang with our farm's nutmeg brew to the delegates of Asio Gusto Terra Madre in Korea 10 years ago (2015). May you rest in peace, Carlo Petrini.

The early bird catches the worm!

We connected with a group of teenage students who showed up wanting to learn about local regenerative agriculture. For a few hours of soil digging, observing aquatic biodiversity and discovering weeds, herbs and spices, the youths were surprised with a Durian reward at the end.

A subtle lesson imparted - no venture, no gain and experience is the best education.

The mini hands on research here were to look for weeds, water organisms and soil biome.

The main question is what has biodiversity got to do with the taste of fruits grown here.
Tasting the durians that they picked themselves at the end is one of the ultimate test to see how biodiversity taste!
